yes, for the purposes of this thread, this is limited only to the expert league.

I signed up on the one Velogames (not as interactive) but will join the PBP one also later today.

Expecting to get my butt wiped, but it will be fun anyways. My only issue is that I will be away on a few weekends during the TdF so I won't be able to pick my guys everyday. Oh well, c'est la vie!

the rules say that there's an automatic pick-up from the day before if you do nothing. so as long as you leave during a string of like stages, you'll be fine.

Being a big fantasy football geek and friggin giddy every year when the TdF rolls around, this year is no exception, I am in with maximum aplomb. My showing here will be akin to LA's shredding of the l'Alpe d'Huez. Although my team will be at the limit, I'll be giving each and everyone of you the "The Look" as I pass your asses after feigning fatigue. *I have to figure this handicap points system out though.

Does anybody know a site where I can download a good stage summary sheet? Each year I always seem to bounce around different sites trying to find something good and easy to use. If I could print something and hang it in my office, that would be ideal.

Re: ProBikePool roll call. Who's in? [Slowman] [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm trying to figure out how to pick my riders and it seems you want to pick a rider with a low number of handicap points who is likely to finish 3rd or higher in multiple stages or sneak into the yellow and spend multiple days there. The guys who are favourite have high handicaps...for example Evans has a minus 75, so if you pick him, he needs to spend 11 stages in Yellow just to bring you over the 75 point handicap...of course you do get some points for Evan's GC....let's say he spends only 3 days in yellow, wins 1 stage and finishes 3 overall...that gets you 21+10+23=54....so he's a minus 21 point rider....it will be hard to pick good riders given the handicaps. Since I have barely followed pro riding this spring, I will likely end up stuck with a bunch of 'brand name riders with big handicaps" who will likely keep my total in the red....this will be tough!!!

Ideally you want to pick a rider with zero handicap that gets into a 20 minute breakaway on week 1 while the sprinter teams are sleeping at the wheel or where no one wants to do the work to pull up another sprinter team....then your no name guy takes the stage, and yellow jersey and sits on it for 10 days before losing it when the road heads to the sky. So who is this guy/guys (with zero handicap)...help me. There is no Jacky Durand in the peleton anymore :-(

OK, guys, let'd discuss some strategy for picking riders...I know we're competing against each other, but before "draft day" let's share some thoughts.

Seems like these sprinters are good bets:
  • Stuart O'Grady, -15 points
  • Robbie McEwen, -15 points
  • Oscar Freire, -15 points

  • They have low handicaps and likely to take stages and even a yellow in week 1...

Cavendish seems to be value for points - no handicap and though he might not win many stages, he sure will finish high up on some of the flat stages.

Cavendish may be a good call for the first week or so of the tour;however, he plans to drop out of the tour after the first week to focus on getting ready for the Olympics.

    http://www.markcavendish.com/

So you have to decide whether having him for 5 or 6 stages is better than taking one of the handicapped riders who will likely be around for the whole tour.
