Re: Prayers for IMFL athlete [dbarron] [In reply to] Can't Post

what terrible news. not what i was wanting to hear today. i was hoping for any ray of hope that she would pull out of this. this just really hits hard that someone can be swimming fine ( even singing while swimming) one minute then for no reason (?) goes under. is there any idea what happened out there? with such a quick response from the rescue team it is even harder to understand.
i feel for her husband and children and can not imagine the pain they are going through.
Please let them know that everyone here is pulling for her still and praying for that miracle.

She and her family are in our prayers. I was there for my first IM, and it is amazingly sad for such a wonderful and exciting event to turn so tragic. We can't take a single minute for granted...

My thoughts and prayers are with all involved. May the doctors and nurses be sure and swift, may her family be comforted, and may Dorthy have a full recovery.

Dorothy and Mike's son is on my son's soccer team. I really spoke with both of them for the first time 2 weekends ago while at a soccer game. They saw I had a wild ride T shirt and asked if I rode. Of course this started a 1/2 hour conversation in which we found out we shared many of the same interests. My usual bike route went right past their house. They invited me to ride with them once they returned from the Ironman. I thought great, I'll have some new cycling buddies I can ride with. Yesterday I got the news about Dorothy from our kids soccer coach. I then saw how involved Dorothy was with Jouney of Hope Grief Support Group.

I almost cried when I realized Dorothy lost her husband in an automobile accident in November of 2002. Now her 3 children are facing this. Sometimes things just aren't fair. God bless those children, Dorothy and Mike.

This breaks my heart. No one should have to suffer this much, especially children.

I pray she recovers.

I was there as well, and have a strong bond, as many here. I'm hoping and praying as the others. Thanks so much for keeping us informed. At the carbo dinner, there was a young man who had a similar experience happen to a family member, and he mentioned how good the Iman peopel were for an entire year. Perhaps we can encourage the same support, and help from Iman for those children who must be hurting so.

Such disappointing news. I wanted this to turn out differently- as I am certain everyone does.

I am still hoping, praying, sending best of energy. I am so sorry. I'm not certain what else to say except I feel so bad...

Maybe there will be a wonderful turn of events... I so hope so. It's been a bit of a tough year with things like this.

Was there as well and saw CPR being performed perfectly. We thought about the athlete -who we now know is Dorothy - all day and ever since. Thank you for the updates. We will continue to keep Dorothy, her husband, and children in our prayers.
Quite sobering...this could happen to any of us.

Latest update:
Mike just called and Dorothy survived the testing. They had to unhook her from some of the devices to do the tests. The test was to measure if blood is flowing to her brain. The good news is there is blood flow. The doctor told him not to get overly optimistic because they have not determined how much damage has already occurred. They will run another test tomorrow (they don't want to stress her body again today) to determine how much damage has been done. At that point, Mike and family will determine the next steps. It appears that your prayers are working. Please continue to pray for Dorothy and a good report tomorrow.

My prayers are with Dorothy and her family.

It's amazing the response to this Thread. It shows what a "Great" and "Caring" Community we are. It also puts things in prospective.

Re: Prayers for IMFL athlete [coryalps] [In reply to] Can't Post

This has shaken our little community of Lucas, TX where Mike and Dorothy and kids live. Everybody is in prayer for them and will be eager to assist in any way they can when called upon. I have know the family for several years having coached Dorothy's older son in soccer for several seasons (until last May) when my son decided to hang up his cleats. Her older son is my older son's grade and her younger son is my younger son's grade. The same is true for at least a half dozen other families in Lucas.

Dorothy has always been very supportive of her son's sporting interests and I could always count on her to bring him to soccer practice and the games. Mike is a terrific interior painter and has done painting in our house (and a number of other houses around town. In the few years they have lived in Lucas they have become a well-known & well-liked part of our community.

Stay strong Mike.
God bless Mike and Dorothy
