Peterborough Half Roll Call Can't Post

Who else is super pumped to be racing in Peterborough this Sunday?! New run course looks a better, seems to be just a single/simple out and back and weather looks to be damn near perfect (a bit on the warm side though)... I'm hoping to get under 5 hours, as per my goal as soon as i finished the race last year.

Good luck to all racing this Sunday!

I'm there but not really pumped. I have yet to master the Peterborough course.
Personally, I loved the old run course. Haven't tried the new one yet.

Bring your salt everyone, it' going to be HOT

I'm guessing from the map it's a one loop course? Looks like the flat shaded section occurs in the first 5k, then we bake.

Hello all,

I'll be there and I'm looking forward to it. This year I plan on using the bottle exchange on the bike as a practice for IMC.

See you there!

I'm hoping for lots of sun, super hot, wind wind wind and humidity just in case it is the same at IMLP. They already have the hills, so I don't have to worry about the course getting flatter on us :-). See ya there.

I think you are in luck Dev:

Sunday
High 27
Feels Like 33

Winds...5 km/h. Ughh....it will be hot with virtually no wind. Right up your alley.

I think hot with wind is better for the half Ironman distance....it makes the bike tough, but the run is not a complete sauna....I'm OK with the latter, but most people aren't. At least the windy bike does not melt anyone down completely.

I too don't mind a little wind... I hate the feeling of getting off the bike and having the heat of the day just hit me right as I'm getting into the run, makes the whole deal feel that much harder...

Ya pretty sure... and from what I can see, the new course eliminates the 2 larger hills at the far section of the old course... so it's seemingly flatter? we'll hafta see i guess

I like the venue and the race in Peterborough. Every time I have done it it has been hot and more hot. Not doing it this year.

Hope you have a good race and make your sub-5 goal!

Will be there, also not terribly excited. Life has gotten in the way of training lately. So I will probably be hurting pretty good.

Glad they have a single loop run course back. Last years was a disaster from a logistical standpoint. I heard there were fist fights as some of the sprint athletes tried to leave the venue after their race, and were unable to.

I'm in and can't wait!! 3rd time doing the Half IM.

The run course is now on the Half IM bike course, go up to Baseline and come back. Pretty much the shaded part is only at the T-zone/ecology garden area, rest will be on the hot open road.

I'm liking the 5km/h winds for the bike...I can go faster then :)

Good luck to everyone. I'll be the gal on the Pink Flamed Crono.

Hi all,
I'm in. Am I super pumped? No, not yet - probably only at 30psi, hoping to be at 120 by Sunday! Weather looks good, I'll
be quasi tapered and like everyone else, looking for a PB in PeterBorough. Hope everyone has a great race.
Cheers,
Darren

Have a good race on Sunday Dev ...... I'm in the far north so I'm missing that race for the first time in a while. On the bright side, my daughter just destroyed her 800m free pb at provincials with a 10:24.06 clocking which was a pb by almost 16 seconds so I guess it was worthwhile missing the fun this weekend :)

My wife is going but I don't know how pumped she is since it's her mandatory 1/2 for Kona and it's more about finishing it as her B race this time rather than going hell bent for leather.

It always has when Peterborough was run as a 1/2 except for last year when they changed the run to a double loop of the old Olympic distance run route. It is 4 lanes until you get to the bridge and then it narrows if memory serves me correctly.

Re: Peterborough Half Roll Call [Allan] [In reply to] Can't Post

Allan, that is too bad that you will not be going, but congrats on your daughter's quick swim. Wow!

I am looking forward to the event in prep for Kona. It should be a lot of fun.

However, I have a bit of a dilemma, since my ride to the race needs to go to Toronto right after, and that is in the other direction from me. If anyone is heading back toward the Ottawa area after the race and can give me a lift home, that would be awesome. I live only 10 km south of HWY 7, so it really isn't out of the way. And, cerveloguy claims he will have munchies and beverages available to the lucky chauffeur!

Thanks Allen, we'll miss you for sure, but there will be no shortage of local talent to keep all of us honest. My buddy Mike Woodford (Woody67 on ST), will be there to push the pace in the 40-44 age group...he won his Kona slot at St. Croix, so has no reason to "hold anything back for IMLP" in 2 weeks. Look for a special race from him.

So how did everyone do on those hills yesterday?, i wimped out of the half and did the sprint instead as i'm coming down with a cold, but i did volunteer at the finish doing medical/firstaid, i noticed there wasn't as many people finishing in bad shap as i expected.
