PLEASE HELP changing aerobars
Can't Post
I am in the middle of changing aerobars and am stuck on something. I have the part of the shifter(shimano) off that is attached to the cable but the other part that is actually attached to the bars wont budge. There is a little screw down in the piece but am not sure what it does, will it break ot or crack the bars?? What do I do
Thanks

Are you talking about the allen bolt that is inside. Can't really see it, just have to stick the allen wrench in and turn. Go to Shimano's web site and it will show you in great detail.

Depends on who originally tightened them. I worked on mine a couple of months ago, but I don't remember them being that tight. I guess you could strip any allen bolt. if it's that bad, might want a wrench at your lbs to take a look.

Opps, I need to read a little better. You do have to be careful with carbon, but once you are to the point of re-tightening it, I guess I would just go far enough to where the shifter does not move. If it moves later down the road, it's not the end of the world. Just tighten it a little more.

That bolt might be reverse threaded (in other words, rightey-loosey and lefty-tighty). Look at the shimano installation instructions for that specific bar-end shifter to confirm/deny.

what STAL said; believe that's a left hand threader.......

that's correct, the threading is 'backwards' from your position on the outside of the aerobar extensions.
i just built up a tri bike a few weeks ago. i ended up losing the expansion bolt in the extensions on the first try.

Yep, it's threaded backwards. Requires a 6mm allen wrench.
