One Grand Coaching Opportunity Can't Post
In a completely off-the-wall conversation I had recently with a non-triathlete friend, the subject of coaching was broached. My friend didn't understand why someone would pay anyone - even highly qualified individuals to coach them. Surely, someone who was qualified but didn't have the clientele yet would front you the coaching in exchange for being their protégé, showing everyone what this great coach can do for someone.

So, in an effort to show that I am not wrong, (I hate being wrong.) I agreed to post here and ask if anyone would be willing to coach me pro bono. I am, dare I say, not a stellar athlete. I took most of last year off recovering from an undiagnosed knee injury and some digestive issues in addition to getting married and buying a new house. I've been a triathlete since '99, a generally athletic guy before then. I have never won a race - even my age group. I have never come close, either.

So, to all you coaches out there, if you are so good at what you do, prove it. I'm pretty much self-motivated, but very confused about how to fit in training around my new wife and home, as well as work. Any training plan I've ever used (TTB, serious, Maffetone) took over most of my life with long training hours. That doesn't work anymore.

I am now officially accepting applications for coaches. :)

Although I am not a "professional coach", I would be willing to take on the task. Let me know. Credentials: 4:30 1/2 IM, multiple top 5 overalls in local races and top 3 age group in a few bigger races, 3rd place team Desoto Triple T. A 10:40 IM on 10hrs a week also.

Let's see. Sure I'd coach you for free. First thing I'd tell you is buy a Cervelo. Almost guarantee that I could fit you to your bike nearly as well as the pros. Most of the bike advice I could give would be fairly sound.

But with swimming and running...uh..well...uh...now we've got a big problem. Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all. Maybe the pro bono coach is also willing to help me out as well.

or he may start wondering why, if you are so good, why you aren't working for free so you can prove how good you are. Otherwise, he may see little benefit for what he is shelling out, or at least not as much benefit as he is shelling out. Could be trouble.
