Olympic Marathon Thread (commentary on live race) Can't Post

Since the other thread is about whether or not the coverage is live, and it appears some people don't have the LIVE coverage, especially those on the west coast, lets make this the thread where we can talk about what is happening.

If it is as hot as NBC says it is ~85 degrees at 7:45 AM, and the first two miles were 4:4x and 4:5x, this could be a crazy race of attrition. Should be fun to watch!

The pace at mile 4 is a sub 2:06 pace! Hall and Ritz are only back about 20 sec. Maybe they are playing it smart by laying back.

At the pace they're running, there's going to be some carnage out there. Should be fun to watch.

thanks so much for any play by play you guys. looks like the west coast is shafted here. we can see splits every 5k but are otherwise blind.

All you need is a dollar and a dream..and a severe f*&%ing beating!!

28:23 through 6 miles. lead group down to about 6 or so. JM Martinez of Spain is a few yards out front. Hall is 46 seconds back, running a pace which is more sane. Gotta love the guts of the guys in the lead pack though.

I understood that R. Cheruyot from Kenya was on of the 3 kenyans in the Olympic.
Does anyone know why he is not in the race ??

All of these buildings in Bejing are HUGE!!!

Correction...I think there are 8 in the lead pack, then it is strung out as individuals later.

Bets on how long til there is no pack?

That shot just before the commercial showed pretty much every one of the leaders with water or another hydration bottle in hand. If they are feeling it at mile 7, its going to be ugly for some of them by the 1/2. Super human efforts are fun to watch.

Hall is running smart.

There is no way that those lead pack guys don't implode at some point, that pace at those temps.

OK, I'll admit I wasn't paying full attn to the fluff piece on Hall, but did he do a 50 mile run around the lake as his first distance run?
(or was it 15?? That sounds a lot more realistic)

15 for Hall's first long run.

Did 2 guys bridge up to the lead pack, or did I miscount before? 10 in the lead group now.

Another thing I found odd w/ that shot is there was a guy w/ a 't-shirt' style top on. Obviously not a cotton t, but I'd be out there w/ as little as possible.

Apparently he had to drop out very close to the running of the marathon, I missed the reason why. Sick or hurt.

Lead group is down to 5. They're dropping quickly. This pace is unbelievable. 2 Kenyans 1 ethipian,
the Ethiopian is only 25. they Say he is uncontrollable.
