I'l be there. Hopefully the freeze at 7am will make me go faster to warm up.

I'll be staying at my house and trying to find a damn parking spot in all that mess.

IN,

Though the JFK 50 the day before is the real test, seeing if I can make it through the marathon in under 4 hours - 3:30 is the goal

Word up my 3:15 brother! What is your race/pace plan?

I have a feeling there will be an unofficial 3:15 pace group developing along the way...

Re: Official Philadelphia Marathon Thread [Macho Grande] [In reply to] Can't Post

My thought is to ease into pace over the first 5 miles (say roughly 7:45, 7:45, 7:30, 7:30, 7:20) and then aim for ~7:20/mi for the bulk of it. Hopefully hang on without fading too bad at the end. In reality, trying to go out very easy will probably put me near pace from the get-go. Best case is I still have a little gas at mile 20 and can bring it home in 7:10-7:15/mi and finish ~3:12. "Theoretically", I should be capable of ~3:10 so I have a little bit of margin...but only a little, especially if it's as windy as it has been lately.

My guess is that I'll be wearing a "hi-vis" orange long sleeve top. I'll probably have a visor on (white or black), but you should still be able to see my blond hair atop my 6'2" high head. Say, "hi"...or "HTFU" depending how I look at the time. :-)

Re: Official Philadelphia Marathon Thread [JohnnyKay] [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, theoretically I can run a 3:07 based off of my 1/2 mary time, so who knows.

I'm starting out with the 3:20 group (7:37's) and then after the last hill at Mile 10 or so taking off and running 7:20-7:15's the rest of the way. My goal is 3:15:59, that's it.

I'll be in a Team Under Armour shirt that says "Athletes Run" on the front and some Desoto Trishorts.

Given your bib # I assume you're shooting for sub-3:00?

Re: Official Philadelphia Marathon Thread [Macho Grande] [In reply to] Can't Post

Think I may have seen you at the start right near the 3:20 balloon dude. I was in an orange shirt and black LP visor.

Hope your race went well. I was right on plan except that I faded too much over those last few miles and missed the mark by a little less than a minute. Fortunately, I turn 40 next year so this will qualify me for 2010 and I don't have to run another one of these until then. They freakin' hurt! :-)

Re: Official Philadelphia Marathon Thread [JohnnyKay] [In reply to] Can't Post

Did I bump into you? I was having sock issues at the start and bent over a few times to fix it.

I went 3:14:47 and even split the entire race, which made me happy. I had to abandon my entire plan when the 3:20 group leader announced beforehand that he wanted to run 1:41 on the front and arrived at Mile 2 almost 1.5 mins off. I went off on my own after that.

Needless to say I'm pretty stoked.

Awesome! Congrats!

I was just a couple people in front of you. Tried to make eye contact a few times after I guessed it might be you, but you were ducked down a lot. :-)

Bob,

Congrats on 'punching your ticket' on a perfectly paced raced, nice work.

In addition to you, it was a GREAT day in Philly for our PBN-crew as Craig Segal ended up going 2:25:10 good enough for 4th o'all. This was his 1st marathon finish & at 24yrs old, I know he has a lot more great races in him.

Congrats again Bob!
