OWS in Mammoth Lakes, CA Can't Post

Heading up over Labor Day, getting the bike in this week so I am leaving it at home and running/swimming. I know Horseshoe is the only basin lake you can swim in.

June Lake the best bet? Can you swim between the beaches?

Whitmore Pool seems only to be open early a.m. weekdays

Try making the short drive south to Convict Lake, I'm pretty sure you can swim there. It's BEAUTIFUL.

June Lake is your best bet. I'm not sure if lifeguards will be on duty for the holiday weekend and, if they are, if they will have issues with you going from beach to beach. But, I've gone from the campground boat launch that's just past the beaches to the other side of the lake and back (with my husband in a kayak) and not had any problems. It's probably not advisable, though, if you don't have anyone to accompany you. You can swim in Horseshoe Lake, but the water level is really, really low and, honestly, it's kind of creepy with all the CO2 damage to the surrounding trees. I don't think swimming is allowed at Convict Lake, although it is beautiful. Nice restaurant, too. Whitmore Pool goes to only weekday mornings at the end of the summer. Snowcreek Athletic Club has an indoor pool that's about 20 yards. They also have an outdoor pool that I would guess is about 30 yards across--it's an odd shaped pool, not really intended for lap swimming, but it does have a black line on the bottom that allows you to lap swim with flip turns on each end.
