Not another crank length thread. Nooo! Can't Post

OK, I ride 175mm on my single speed 29er. I'm on 172.5mm on both my road bike and tt bike. Does everyone ride the same length on their tt bikes as their road bikes for those that ride road bikes?

Let the rock throwing begin!

There are a bunch of articles on this topic on the main page. The current train of thought is to use slightly *shorter* cranks on your TT bike as compared to your road bike. The reasoning is that TTs are (for most people) optimally performed when spinning at a slightly higher cadence, and a shorter crank allows this to be accomplished more efficiently.

i thought the reasoning was that shorter cranks don't crush your leg up into your body as much when in the aero position

Actually, that mostly. Short cranks are a weapon in the positioning arsenal. If you want to spin faster in a TT, try your shifters first.

I was old school on this until a couple of years ago - longer on the tt (177.5s) than on the road (175s). I've slowly moved to 172.5 on all bikes and my knees are happier.
