Norseman 2009 video

Tired of all the discussion of drafting?? Sit down and enjoy a video from the 2009 edition of Norseman Extreme Triathlon, a unique competition over the Ironman distance in Norway.

The 2010 edition is already sold out THREE times, and the organization had to create a lottery to pick the participants. But new chances will come for 2011.

I guess I should have disclosed that I am just a fan of the event, not part of the Norseman organization. As a Norwegian now living in the US I like to promote my old country, and maybe one day when I a fit I can try Norseman myself.
My mom lives at the foot of the last hill on the run leg so I know how hard these hills are.

Those guys are freaking walking!
No finishers medal to anyone that walks in an ironman! They probably drafted during the swim too! What's happening to this sport?

Part of the reason could be because the race starts at 4:30 or 5 AM. This swim starts while it is still dark outside and it really isn't light out for at least the first 30 minutes of the swim.

This race is epic, a climber's paradise, and those final 15-kilometers of uphill 10-12% grade roads are a reflection of the Norwegian's insanity!

great video, something different and without any whining like with IMAZ and FL and drafting and he did but i didn't but i'll talk about from here to heaven because i' didn't draft but you did but i didn't but i know you did and i'll call you out and all that crap. i think i'll watch it again.
It's not about the bike, it's just along for the ride.

Please keep a log of where you've stayed, car rental...all that stuff. I'm planning to do it in 2011 and would love to have a general roadmap of what to plan for.

This is awesome. I had never heard of this race until now. It's bookmarked and hopefully I'll get a chance to do this race in a few years.

You might want to consider doing a tour with these guys: http://www.endurancelife.com/event.asp?series=35, which is what I'm doing. They take care of all the logistics for you. I didn't need them for a slot, as I already had one, but I believe they have 20 guaranteed slots.

How do you get down from the peak of the mountain?? In the fifties the military built an elevator inside the mountain, so the athletes are allowed to use it. The lift has limited capacity, which is one of the reasons that only the first 160 competitors are allowed to finish at the top of the peak. The support people have to walk down.
