Thought about that, maybe after winning the lottery. As a student, I got to watch my expenditures.

Re: New Race wheels [epoch2k] [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm considering these exact wheels versus the Zipp 404/808 clinchers. The advantage for the Heds, to me, is that they are less expensive and are made right here in Minnesota. I like that I could drop them off in person for any issues that may come up (periodic truing, etc.). The two wheelsets seem to probably be very close in terms of aerodynamics, and the Heds are even lighter than the Zipps according to published specs. I can't see forking out at least another $600 for the Zipps for what would largely be for the "bling" factor. Are there any other reasons you went for the Heds? My mind is pretty much made up, but any additional justification would push me over the edge!

Thanks.

As a student, I can't go crazy with my $$$, so that was a factor; also, both wheels have the toradial(sp) rim, so no difference there. The big thing is that the HED Jet C2s come in a 23mm rim, which is great b/c I prefer 700x23, so I wouldn't have to face a harsher ride on skinnier tires. My preference are clinchers, less maintenance for me, and the aluminum braking surface on the HED means I can keeps costs down by not having to purchase fancy brake pads or worry about what will happen to the rim if a flat happens. In the end I feel that the HED is comparable to ZIPP. That's my $0.02

I'm riding 2 sets of the HED90/90's. One set on my traininig tri bike and another set on my road bike. I love 'em!!! The road bike set are tubbies and the training tri bike set are clinchers.
