goddammit I know you are talking about me and no, I did NOT get any prize money in Florida. Only top 8 paid out.

I know I am a shitty swimmer, my coach gave me enough crap about that atrocious swim. I am working on it!!!

I haven't had time to read through this whole thread but I will say that I am happy there are no time restrictions like "you need to swim under an hour to get prize money."

I am planning to hit up the Ironman circuit pretty hard next year but in my limited experience didn't have to pay for any WTC entries this year--Malaysia, China, Florida, and Cozumel. It seems that the North American events are harder to get comped entries to but at most overseas races comped entries for pros are a given.

so that's another $750 to add to the credit card debt.

I do think that the time restrictions for Kona slots is good because you should be really fast to go to the world championships.

and to the Brain Fart guy who likes my blog, thank you. I think I add value to the sponsors and they think so too. Everybody loves an Asian Triathlon Superstar and I've been told I am one of the most followed athletes on our team. even though I swim like shit and am not super duper fast yet. so there.

How does that seperate WTC from a race series that likes to promote it's athletes? I don't really understand your logic here. Most pros will also do more than one WTC race (kind of like a series) to qualify for a championship (Kona or Clearwater).

All we were saying is that XTERRA seems to utilize their pros more than WTC does.

yep, a bit part of been a professional triathlete isnt about the results but about selling yourself and you have been doing a very good job at this joceyln....keep the good work!

I have to say, at the beggining of the camp in subic, i would have never beleive you would go sub 10h at a ironman.... but you keep on impressing me! Awesome job at florida.... prize money will come soon.....just keep at it and keep the personality....

thanks Jonnyo! it's funny isn't it? I only broke 12 hours for the first time in April. Coach said not to even THINK about prize $$$ until my swim is under an hour. :( so anything I can get in the meantime is a "bonus"...

shameless self-promotion is key for the slower pros! it helps if you are also ridiculously good looking! ;D

You misread the WTC statement. The $750 per pro head is to compliment the antidoping program, not to complement it.

"Here is $750, you've done a good job mr antidoping'.

Yes I agree - REALLY STUPID of them. If you look at it. Unless you finish top 8 (and now within 8% of the first) you're pretty much considered a "looser" - pretty sad. I like to if somebody told the 9th golfer at a tournament - "sorry dude - go home - no money, and BTW you need to pay US money so we look even more important"

Really, what are they trying to get out of this (besides more money). $750 from Pro's, and $550 from Am.?? What a business - get your money a year ahead???
