Re: Neo Pro vs. Zipp Vuma Quad [bamaE] [In reply to] Can't Post

Please understand that I am a sales rep for Zipp.

I have been using the Vuma for a year, I love it. It is the stiffest crankset I have ever used, as well as the lightest. I have had very few crankset problems, and this one is the same, no issues. I am using the standard rings, and there have been no flex issues from the 4 bolt pattern. I have also not had any fit issues with either of the bikes I have used it on, though I have had heard of issues with a few Cervelo frames, but no consistency in the model or year, (works on some 08 P3C and not another).

Great crankset, I think you will be happy with it.

I have not used the NeoPro.

i have the neo pro on jamis t2. i dont think the front chain rings shift as well as shimano. they crank is also fairly heavy. it does have a ceramic BB

i suppose it is more "aero" than a standard Da or zipp crank, but dont really know. i defintely like the 54tooth.

it is one of the coolest looking cranks out there and is plenty stiff-but they all are.

My training partner has the Vuma Quad. I was going to get one myself until his bottom bracket went bad after only 2500 miles, and then the titanium crank bolt snapped while removing it. His problems coupled with the carbon delamination issues they are having with the spindles made me wait.

I'm sure they'll iron it out, but I'd hold off for a while.

I have the Zipps. I really like them but do have some concerns. First they use a 4 bolt chainring and not the standard 5 bolt, and you must use the Zipp BB. So in short they are light, shift well, but finding parts if something happens probably wont be quick.

The FSA is heavy and does not shift well (like a previous poster said). We have also seen two of them break.

The only experience with the ZIPP I have seen is the rich slow assholes with TONS of cash to spend buy them at the shop I'm at. Roughly 100% of the people who buy these cranksets at my shop are real assholes. plus the cranksets we have sold have all be compacts which are totally gay and useless.

some people would consider sub 10:45 at IMFL as slow...and judging by this post you do seem to be kind of an asshole...ill be sure to steer clear of your shop...

He really isn't an asshole, just frustrated and chose to vent his experience poorly.

I will say, my training partner is not one of the rich assholes LOBO is talking about. He's rich, but far from an asshole and fast as hell.

Re: Neo Pro vs. Zipp Vuma Quad [NateC] [In reply to] Can't Post

well by asshole, I really meant asshole, as in middle aged guys who think it's cool to treat the shop employees like shit just because they have an 8k bike.

And by slow I mean pretty slow, these 8k bikes come in and their average speed on their computers is like 14-16 mph. This would be a moot point if not for the whole asshole thing.

And usually when they buy the Vuma Quad, they say something like "well, my legs burn when I climb so I think I need a compact crank, or I need to buy something to lose weight".........rather than riding more hills and realizing that they just need to ride more.

Almost every one of these guys also seems to think that the "employees only" sign leading to the shop doesn't apply to them.....and their friends.

These same people also don;t seem to think that it's fair for them to pay retail even though they are driving corvettes and lexuses.

They also like to take advantage of the shop owner by acting like his best friend when they want something for cheap but then turn around and talk about what an idiot he was for giving things away so cheap.

So by asshole, I really did mean asshole. (you know who you are, and anybody who has ever worked in a shop knows who you are)

:)

"...rumor has it that a Zipp time trial crankset is coming out at Interbike...bikescott?"

If I had a cat, and if I also had a bag, and if that particular cat were in that particular bag, I wouldn't let it out.

There were some early BB problems, but that bearing supplier for that BB was changed, and the problem seems to be solved now. I also had a very early crank with the spindle problem, i am a big guy who likes to jump RR crossings, but again that process was changed, and I have had no problems since. Other than my personal crank, I have not seen another spindle issue. I am sure there were others, but it is certainly not a significant amount.

You don't like the people who buy it, therefore the Vuma must be a bad product. Brilliant. Didn't stop you from taking their money though, did it?

He said you sounded like an asshole. Here's a clue: When you think of "bad" as "gay", you probably are. Or you've been watching too much "South Park." Or you are twelve

I have heard that the 4-bolt design can be a problem for strong/bigger riders in that that the chain ring's can flex causing a whole lot of shifting problems?

I was advised to try them, but you may not like them...

Anyone have any similar experiences?

Re: Neo Pro vs. Zipp Vuma Quad [swimfan] [In reply to] Can't Post

FWIW,

I love my VumaQuads, and I don't think I'm slow, nor do I think I'm an ass. But I could be wrong on both accounts.

I did have an issue after about 1000 miles where my bearing started to squeak. I called Zipp and they overnighted me an entire new BB -- great customer service if you ask me. They said that the early cranks shipped with bearings that didn't get enough grease in them. I haven't had any trouble since. And they sure are sexy cranks...

I also recommend looking at the Lightning Cranks (Goolge it). I've got 3 sets on order which should be delivered this week, so PM me if you're interested in a set. (Very light, less expensive, and I've never ridden them so I can't tell you much more.)

I am riding the Easton EC90 Cranks now and am really liking them. Something light, stiff, and different. Less chainring flex than the Zipps and they are a lot cheaper than Zipps also.
