NAS to Get purchased by Providence?
Can't Post
Xtri is reporting a deal is in the works for Providence to acquire NAS just months after acquring WTC and bringing all Ironman brand racing under one umbrella.
What does this mean to our sport? Seems to make sense to me from a business point of view, it's always been hard for the 2 entities to separate themselves.

i may be mistaken but aren't many of the ironman races worldwide owned by independent race production companies and licensed by wtc to use the ironman brand? that's a lot of races to buy up. i'm not disputing the nas rumor, as that would consolidate all of the us and canada races, eliminating the two entities stepping on each other's toes on the home turf. interesting to see how this will play out...will wtc own the races but still contract the race production out to nas, or will they completely take over all aspects of the races? i believe nas uses local race directors for most events so there is that relationship to deal with as well.

probably a good time to get out especially with the economic situation of the country and with ford's sponsorship status in limbo... i'd take the money and run...
it would be interesting to see what happens afterwards. maybe Providence/WTC would outsource the race setup back to NAS, they do that the knowledge and experience. NAS race websites are way better than what WTC has for Louisville and Boise right now.

Ford's sponsorship status is in limbo? Do you have information no one else has?
Trust me, the amount that Ford pays for the naming rights (A few million $$ MAYBE) isn't going to make or break the company, so I HIGHLY doubt it is in limbo.
Is Ford in limbo? Sure, but of the Big 3 it is in the best shape.

I'm not sure exactly what WTC owns worldwide, certainly the naming and licensing to any race that calls itself an Ironman or 70.3. I'm guessing they have stake in a few of the ventures outside of the US but I have no personal knowledge of that. But you're right it does consolidate all North American MDOT racing. SHOULD make races cheaper since there is no third party now to pay a license fee to for NAS races, but I doubt that will happen :)
I do believe though that WTC and NAS both bring in local help at most of there races.
