Re: Multi Vitamin? [norton] [In reply to] Can't Post

Disclosure: I'm the guy that designs and sells Damage Control Master Formula.

The Master Formula is actually far more than a vitamin formula. I sell another high potency multi-vitamin with some other bells and whistles for $49 and yet another for just $29 a month. Vitamins are easy and even good ones are fairly common. The Master Formula is more about the 25 other ingredients you'd find in a health food store bottled separately and at great expense - natural nutrients that you can't really get from average diets and about which you can read reams of research on the apparent recovery benefits. I only choose ingredients that have been shown in credible studies to be safe for long-term use and to have reliably shown some advantage in recovery, antioxidant capacity, immune support, liver support, stress-response support or other factor related to training, racing and health. The best of the best. No other company in sports performance can come close to matching this formula. My Antioxidant value alone (over 20,000 ORAC/day) is head and shoulders above every other product in sports performance (and more than all but two or three $300+/ month "anti-aging" formulas). If you are looking for the best in its category, this is it. At $129/month Damage Control Master Formula is the best "deal" in supplements.

As you may know from my prior posts here, I believe the type of training it takes to compete at a high level is potentially damaging (hence the name Damage Control). I started this formula design 11 years ago as an alternative to banned substances and what I saw as other legal but inferior products designed to assist recovery from training. My product is made in a GMP-standard co-packing plant that is also a licensed OTC drug facility, the ingredients are sourced from reputable long-term US companies, each raw material is accompanied by a certificate of assay - but then we assay it in our own lab again before it is included in a batch, no banned substances are packaged for other companies anywhere in the facility (so there is no chance of equipment contamination).

In the decade that I have been selling the Master Formula, hundreds of the best in the world in many different sports have come to rely on it. Many of my customers have never missed a month and consider it as much a part of their training as doing intervals. If you would like to check out the ingredients, please do so at www.primalnutrition.com Thanks for the chance to speak...

Disclosure: I am not a Registered Dietician or Nutritionist
Although I have not researched the product, the Damage Control sounds good. What I can say is that when I had the same question, I went to the doctor, an anti-aging specialist. He drew 8 vials of blood and gave me a thorough going over (if you get my drift). His recommendations were as follows: Multi-vitimans are for the masses. There is never enough of any one ingredient to be of any value. If there was, the pill would be the size of an Oreo. The results of my bloodwork showed no deficiencies (can't say the same for my mental state) so he recommended some anti-oxidents because of my activity as well as a few other things. Lycopene, Selenium, CoQ10, N-Acetyl Cysteine, C, E, Magnesium, Alpha Lipoic Acid, DHEA, and Saw Palmetto (that bike seat is a killer). Although most of these are common and good for everyone, they were a specific "prescription" for me. In addition I have just stumbled upon a product called Univera. Although this is an MLM company, I have read the research on the product and it looks great. If you are serious about your training and nutrition, see a good doctor and go from there!

See, there is at least one way to control sourcing :-)

There are many studies confirming the advantages of taking, single, multi-vitamin and other supplements, and there are just as many studies refuting all of that. The only thing that is clear and consistant is that this is a very confusing category.

Anectdotally, I took a regular vitamin and mineral supplement for years. For some reason I stopped taking it a number of years ago. Since then I have noticed no real changes, no increase in sickness or colds, no significant increase or decrease in energy levels or athletic performance.

To Mark Sisson's post, at the top of the page, it is very true that at the level that many elite athletes train at, and even many AG athletes who really push themselves day in and day out, it may not be an all together healthy thing - you need to keep in mind that the reccomended daily level of fitness and activity is 20 minutes of something just beyond a fast walk. So clearly, top athletes are really pushing beyond this and their can me a significant amount of damage done to body tissues and cells.

Ah, I'm going to stay away from specifics, but in general it's a waste of money. Now on the other hand, if you have arthritis and want to try Gluc-Chond Sulf, go right ahead. Sometimes it helps.

IMHO, it depends on what you're trying to tackle (family hx of cancer, heart disease, etc.). Plenty of research to support specific vitamins for specific disease processes.

thoughts on the various "joint pills". not really brands, bc they all have the same stuff in them, but on the usefulness...?

I use a liquid multivitamin ,read in a article it is absorbed better than a pill. Buy it at Vitamin Shop and liquid joint repair. mix it with orange juice in the morning and it seems to be working fine.
