Lookie Here What Rich From Wheelbuilder.com Sent Me Can't Post

Sorry for the over-sized images...I still can't figure out how to get that right.

Specs:

808 Clinchers, 700c
Black Bladed Spokes
Red Anondized Nipples
All Black PowerTap 2.4 SL Wireless

I couldn't be happier with the service and help I received from Rich. He is fabulous!

The very definition of BLING. Well done. Nice touch getting the red nipples to match the RED componentry!

the red nipples are a nice touch.

just don't repeat that out loud or your girlfriend might think you're having some sort of affair... with someone other than your bike...

Red nipples gives the new meaning to bike porn.

I didn't realize this but the red nipples match the red anondized caps on my SRAM Red TT shifters - unintentional color coordination.

Thanks for looking...

Uh, hello?!? The chain is supposed to be in the 12 tooth cog, not the 23....

And did you ever consider using rag and whiping that thing down? She's crying on the inside.

I've never been disappointed with Rich's work.

I bet you love whoever decided it was a good idea to put carpet in the middle of hardwood and as a result limiting how you can arrange your furniture :P~

I will race only on that wheel set. I train on a Mavic Open Pro with a PowerTap.

Bike's a bit dirty. You are right, I blew it not moving the chain down to the 11 before the photo shoot.

Random questions unrelated to the wheels, which are very nice.

What bag do you have on top of the Hydrotail? I've never seen a supply bag set up like that and I am intrigued. Also, are you TT cables ziptied together or that tightly routed.

A bit off the subject but I see that you have the cadence sensor for the powertap on your bike. Do you realize that the Powertap gives you cadence without the sensor that is just as accurate? I was told by Saris that the cadence sensor is totally unneeded and only meant for when you are using the unit in computer mode rather than for power. Since you have a training wheel and race wheel with powertap hub you have no need for the cadence sensor. No need to clutter up your bike with something that serves no useful purpose. Just a thought.

The PT Unit gives you virtual cadence, not actual cadence which the sensor provides. The difference between the two can be, well, interesting.

I've never had any odd cadence readings using the virtual cadence. More importantly, any variance would be minor and have no effect on how I am riding. Most people develop a feel for their cadence and just settle into a groove so again I see no reason for it. Also there is a way to correct any cadence spikes in WKO+ so if someone was seriously concerned about these minor spikes they can corrct them without adding additional drag (though it is probably minor drag) to their bike.

I never get accurate cadence readings from the hub-only option.

That's a Jaand Mini Tool Bag on top. I'm still not happy with my rear-mount approach. I've used both HydroTail models and a Bontrager POS - nothing seems to satisfy me. I like the tool bag - just the right size.

Dude! Nice wheel! BTW I am stealing your mounting technique for the bag!

I like the dual-chainring set-up.

Viewing from right the bike is in the 53.

Viewing from left it is in the 39.

Automatic transmission.

Sweet.

Re: Lookie Here What Rich From Wheelbuilder.com Sent Me [fatbastardtris] [In reply to] Can't Post

Maybe it was my PT 2.4 that was wonky, but when soft pedaling up to a stop sign I'd see cadence readings around 100. For long rides my cadence average was sometimes above 100, which is, um, Lance like, but not how I ride.

i'm liberating (I don't steal or borrow) that idea for the bag. Yes some might hammer you for the loss of aerdynamics (Puhlease) but it is a good solution.

I really prefer the AL Hydrotail as opposed to the carbon one and I am pretty happy with it.

Sorry for the additional post. On the cable routing thing...I'm pretty anal about that stuff and even though it prompted "are you shittin' me?" looks from my LBS I got them to route them pretty tight to begin with and then yes, I zip tied them.

Don't know if you remember but you and I were going back and forth in the Spring about the crappy Zipp brake levers. My favorite thing in the cockpit of this bike is the Cane Creek 200T carbon levers that Zipp sent me as temporary replacements. They are very ergo, feel nice in your hands and have solid braking action.

You should take off the Cervelo seat binder and get it re-anodized red.

Re: Lookie Here What Rich From Wheelbuilder.com Sent Me [Macho Grande] [In reply to] Can't Post

Hmmmm. Yeah, I think it might just be yours. I road with both a powertap and edge 305 with cadence sensor for months. The cadence was always spot on for both no matter how long the ride. If you think about how often you are soft pedalling compared to how many cadence readings are taken over the course of the ride with the powertap set to take a reading every second, the instances you mention will have negligible effect on the overall cadence numbers. I just prefer to have less clutter on my bike which is why I don't even use the Garmin anymore.

The Jaand bag works great. It is flipped over so that the straps can be secured on the HT. Fits just fine in between the bottle cage tops - no obstruction at all.
