Late season Halfiron in Northeast? Can't Post

I'm trying to figure out what a good season ender Half ironman would be, sometime in Sept/Oct, that is driveable within the Northeast. Any suggestions?

Mightman Montauk and Firmman have been suggested, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should look at. I'm looking for a race that's pretty competitive (not trying to cherry pick races here, you know?)

Any help you all have would be great!

JerseyMan is a first year event but I signed up for it. I've ridden the course, and it should be nice.

If you are fast and in the 35-39 yr old age group, then I'd try something else... :0)

Montreal Esprit half iron on Sept 13.

Really fun fast course; stacked Canadian field. Nice hotels that are cheap. Fun weekend for others coming with you becuase you can hang out in Montreal the next day.

SavageMan is intensely awesome. So, intensely awesome that this is what Chris McDonald had to say about it after winning last year. http://www.savagemantri.org/Testimonials.html

Nothing against the new "ToughMan", but not sure why you would name your race the ToughMan when it's not even the toughest race on the same day in the same region of the country.

That climb (the Westernport Wall) is sweet, but it's just for fun and most choose to go around. That's just the base of 7 miles over the Continental Divide, and then you've got the hard half of the course still to come. People come in just thinking about The Wall and then have a rude awakening coming their way as the 20% pitches just keep coming.

Bjorn is taking on the bike course this year and his sponsors are putting together a sweet package worth $2000 to whoever is closest to guessing his bike split. Without revealing too many details, suffice it to say that this may be one of your better odds of actually winning a contest with a prize of significant value.

Oh, and the bricks have been put in the Wall immortalizing the few who made it over the Wall without unclipping (sorry, BigZach) and went on to finish the SavageMan.

Nutmeg HIM, September 21.

I've ridden the bike course a few times now...it's either up or down...the run looks like it's no picnic either. Probably not as tough as Savageman, but it's 10mins from my house...so I'm in!

I think if you are looking for a good 1/2 there are many choices. Firstoff you have Nutmeg in Lichfield County CT, Jerseyman in Clinton NJ (west NJ), Mightyman in Montauk NY, Savageman in Md, and Toughman in WESTCHESTER NY, (only 30 min from NYC, CT, NJ, and LI with a metro North train stop AT the race site).
With Toughman you get to see the course with a group swim, ride and/or run each Tues, Sat and Sunday for the next 3 weeks guided by the organizers.
Just listen to 660am, WFAN and the Boomer Esiason show for more information about us. Plus visit our website forum as well and ask questions of those who have swam, ridden and run the course or post comments. www. WESTCHESTERTOUGHMAN.com

I am working on a special surprise for the expo as well, stay tuned.
