Interesting Men's Pro Race at LP Can't Post

Curious as to everyones thoughts on who will win LP this year.

We have a super biker in Bjorn Andersson
We have a super runner in Petr Vabrousek
We have an IM legend in Lothar Leder, however he was just beaten by Vabrousek at the ViennaMan HIM on May 31st.

Can Bjorn hold everyone off in the run? Can Petr reel everyone in on the run? Is Lothar to good of athelte for the both of them.

Will the winner come from these three?

Bjorn will have to hold off his fellow Swede Jonas Colting :-)

I don't know what the predicted temps are supposed to be, but anything under 75 and both those guys will be factors. Each degree above, and their stock goes down. Jonas can handle a little more than Bjorn, but not much. And if it rains, then they could go 1&2..

Any good weather reports for the race???

We're still 2.5 weeks out from the race. It could be 90 and sunny with lots of humidity, or it could be sub 55 and rain. Either has a 5% chance in the Adirondacks in July. Count on somewhere between 60 and 80, with a combination of sun and thundershowers...that's the 60% prediction. The other 20% is overcast all day and drizzle with temps in the 55-70 range....I think the swedish doodes want that final forecast!!!

EDIT: I just better get out onto Run loop2 before the Swedish doodes finish the race....Jonas put down an 8:2x in Almere last year!!!

I think you have to give Jonas credit for some heat tolerance...he does OK at Ultraman, by all accounts!

Re: Interesting Men's Pro Race at LP [devashish_paul] [In reply to] Can't Post

He does OK, but he doesn't have to race world class Ironmen there either. ANd it is a stage race, so he gets to recover each day. And on the last day, you can see he suffers on that run, he is a much faster runner than his split there reflects, and that is the heat getting him.. But he can tolerate some heat, just not a 90 degree day, with high humidity....

Well, according to the parkito weather predictor, all the key training days and most races have been cool and/or wet this year so far. This clearly indicates an LP race day of 88 degrees or hotter, with lots of sun (i.e. no clouds), and possibly windy. Sorry Bjorn, it's nothing personal.

My last IM, IMoo 2006, I trained in 100 degree weather for nearly a month. Naturally IMoo 2006 had the record cold day with rain and wind.

Just remember folks, you heard it here first.

Agreed a 15.xx 5K runner should run faster than Jonas on a double marathon, but when you swim and bike that fast for 2 days, why kill yourself :-)...as for the weather, well you heard it from Parkito first....if the Parkito forecast is indeed correct, I will be a happy man, but Bjorn will likely put on a Viking hat, track down Parkito after the race and put him in a headlock (now that's some serious imagery)

What are the odds we can get it to be 70 deg F on the bike, and then 55 deg F on the run?

Re: Interesting Men's Pro Race at LP [jackattack] [In reply to] Can't Post

If they change the run course and put the finish line at the summit of Whiteface, then I can assure that the temps will be 55F on the run and Bjorn could relive his Norseman Ironman victory, finishing at the summit of a mountain in a snowstorm. Then the finishers could take the chairlift down for a post race meal and massage.

As I type this, I just came up with a sick idea of a fun duathlon day:

Start at 6 am at Mirror lake, Summit Whiteface, complete IMLP bike loop backwards to Mirror Lake, then ride a forward loop to Wilmington. Have support crew drive and park at Whiteface Summit. Leave bikes at Wilmington Gas Station. Run with 2 miles on the flat on the hasleton out and back and then 8 mile uphill run to Whiteface Summit with 3600 feet of climbing....the entire day would be ~90 mile bike+10 mile run with >12,000 ft of climbing....I believe this training day would be Bjorn approved... EDIT: for those who want a harder version of the run, from Wilmington run on the 86, to the Whiteface Mtn ski resort entrance....keep running to the base of the ski hill...then hit the same run that Franz Klammer used to win the Olympic downhill in 1980 and run up right under the chair lift...that's another way of covering the 3600 feet of vertical running and before you ask....yes it has been done...one of the Canadian pros from 1988 who Monty might recall (Richard Browne) ran up the ski hill with his XC ski poles as part of his training for XC ski racing!!!

If you do that race/training day let me know and I will sit on the deck at the Pub and post wildly innacurate made up updates from my blackberry...

Weather forecasting in the adirondacks is far more of an art than a science - have a friend who does that for a living and if you get enough beer in him he will concede that a guy with a graduate degree, a doppler radar and access to the national weather service data can only beat the farmers almanac MOST of the time...

BTW weather is going to be very similar to last year, cool and clear getting warmer as the day goes on.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that one of my fellow Texan's is going to top all of those listed. I'll leave it to the Texans and forum members to fight over which Texan it will be.

That's total bullshit, Dev! Even if Bjorn blows up due to a hot day, he'll still finish over two hours in front of me (or more). All he has to do is sit by the side of the road and waituntil I come by. There's no tracking involved in that at all!

Also, given his size, I'm thinking that headlock would be fatal. :-O

I think the most interesting slug fest will be in the M40-44 AG. We have Rolldown, Woody_67 and Dev who will be hammering the hell out of each other. One already has a Kona slot, the other two want slots and a ticket to the big dance. Have fun guys, I'm going to enjoy watching the three of you inflict pain on each other and see how the day unfolds. Remember, there is room in Kona for all three of you :-))

Alex Mroszczyk-Mcdonald anyone? He is a relatively new pro, but he did win the race last year. I know there will be more heavy hitters this year, but he seems to be constantly getting faster. I think he'll give the foreign guys a run for their money.

I wouldn't dream of saying anything against Alex, he is a real nice guy and he did kick my ass in Kansas, but you know there was no men's pro race at LP last year, right?

I noticed that there were no big names last year, but I did not know there was no pro race last year. Thanks for the info.
