i thought jonnyo was racing? i swear i saw him on the mpro list and now he isnt there.

I think he has decided to race IMC instead. He had been feeling under the weather, and I know he's been working on sorting that out. And one of the last emails I got from him said IMC...

Muffintop...are you making a celeb appearance in LP...if so, you and Normann will have to sign autographs...it appears that Stadler is out of German and according to "kaihawaii" is going to race LP.

Looks like everyone else is racing for second place and Stadler should like the Parkito weather forecast as he does well in heat!!!

[Start at 6 am at Mirror lake, Summit Whiteface, complete IMLP bike loop backwards to Mirror Lake, then ride a forward loop to Wilmington. Have support crew drive and park at Whiteface Summit. Leave bikes at Wilmington Gas Station. Run with 2 miles on the flat on the hasleton out and back and then 8 mile uphill run to Whiteface Summit with 3600 feet of climbing....the entire day would be ~90 mile bike+10 mile run with >12,000 ft of climbing....]

This Du already exits (or at least it is pretty close in difficulty) with American Zofingen long course:
-> 5.0 mile trail run / 84.0 mile road bike / 15.0 mile trail run. Very demanding hills throughout (2,914 feet climbing on run course; 8,121 feet climbing bike course).

BTW I am in American Zofingen!!!!

Fred.

oh, Sadler, that changes things in hurry.

Its a good race to try to win on the bike. Hell-on-wheels did it so did Steve Larson.

Also Tim Snow will have a sick run, as will Alex Mcdonald. one thing about IMLP is that the weather is normally not one thing. I would expect all of the aobve. Moments of sun, heat and stickiness, wind, cool temps and rain, and moments that are fast. That just seems to be how that place sets up, I think its the mountains and the length of the course.

Completely agree, but the one thing about Hellreigel & Larsen is both of them backed up SICK bike splits w/ <3hr runs (Larsen popped a ~2:55/56 as I recall). Regardless, w/ Stadler now in the mix as well (hopefully!), I'm really looking fwd to being up there for this one.

Paul Fritsche is looking strong as well. I biked the course with him last week and I think he will do well.
Is Norman really going to be there... very cool if he is.

I think they could have run slower as I think they won by a lot. The second lap just allows for the strongest cyclist to hammer way from everyone as the conditions get harder and people tire.

yeah, I am gonna be there too, I love watching ironmans, I think its a compelling spectator sport and this has the making of some classic battling.

So Norman says he is really in at LP!

Stadler's official press release
We received this earlier today:

Normann Stadler has to cancel IRONMAN Frankfurt because of illness:

“I absolutely wanted to participate, but the doctors forbade it.”

Frankfurt, 4th July 2008. Because of a compounded influenzal infection, Normann Stadler who won two times Ironman Hawaii, can not participate in the IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt. The captain of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team had to announce the staggering news this morning, after having won the International German Championships (middle distance) only four weeks ago.

“I wanted to start at any price, but my medicals clearly told me to risk my health by doing so,” disappointed Stadler stated. “If the doctors would not have strongly advised me not to race, I would have done the race with the last of my strength. I feel endlessly sorry for my fans and my sponsors. Now I am going to do everything I can to support my team colleagues Jan Raphael, Markus Fachbach und Maik Twelsiek in Frankfurt and I will show in Hawaii what I am able to.”

Stadler is going to compete on the next Ironman on the 20th of July in Lake Placid.

Very interesting now adding Norman. I say and I'am no expert that Lessing course record will hold(8:23)
I grew up in that area and you never know what will hit you as far as weather.I did it 2004 and 2007 and got lucky with conditions I think it is time this year for some funky weather.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that one of my fellow Texan's is going to top all of those listed. I'll leave it to the Texans and forum members to fight over which Texan it will be.

Egli?? Oh wait, he's in Oklahoma now... Hmm... :)
