Infinit Nutrition Questions
Can't Post
Good? Bad? Who is using it and what were you using before. Custom formula or pre-made formula for IM Distance. What flavors taste good. Is this that much better than Hammer Perpetuem? I was told how great Perpetuem was but after buying it I am not sure I can stomach it as I feel like I am drinking cake batter. What is the consistency of Infinit? Are there others that are better? Accelerade? etc.

The consistency of Infinit is like water.
I don't know how anyone gets Perpetupaste down and keep it down. It's awful (in my opinion).
I love Infinit, and you will find a tonne of others that will likely pipe in to say the same. It has been a great addition. But I would personally not put any protein in it. Foams up too much.

Do you use a custom blend or the pre-made blend? Do you use anything else (i.e. gels) with it on the bike. Thanks.

I do both actually. :)
I have a custom formula, I get the Heat Mix (minus the protein), and I get the pre race stuff.
i do take Gels as well, but that is only because I like the Power Gels for the caffeine/taste and to mix things up a bit.
I could easily go all day on Infinit though.

All I can say is that is has changed my life. I used to cramp off every bike ride in T2 (transition 2 for the newbys out there), and when running I always had issues.
Since the move to infinit, no more cramping and much more success in my triathlons.

Infinit Orange tastes really good and I don't like Orange stuff at all. You can mix Infinit in varying levels of concentration to get the number of calories and carbs that you want for your specific workout or race.
I just did IMCDA on mostly Infinit alone. I had some Hammer Gel for variety, a Snickers bar at Spec Needs on the bike and in a totally offensive move I took some Salt Stick caps because if I cramp it is game over and no turning back. In my FuelBelt on the run I had 3X concentrated Infinit in the bottles and at the aid stations I would get a cup of ice and fill it half full with Infinit and even at mile 23 it tasted as good as it did on the first mile of the bike.
I love the stuff and can't say enough good about it.

I am a big fan as well. I find even mixing it to triple concentration (then two bottles does me for an IM ride) still doesn't taste as thick as some of the other sports drinks out there. Sometimes want something solid late in the ride but that is all.
I just increased the electrolytes in the standard formula and lowered the flavour a little.

Spiz before - also good.
Custom formula or pre-made formula for IM Distance.
Custom.
What flavors taste good.
Only tried orange which is good(relatively speaking - we
are
talking about training food).
Is this that much better than Hammer Perpetuem?
Never had it.
I was told how great Perpetuem was but after buying it I am not sure I can stomach it as I feel like I am drinking cake batter. What is the consistency of Infinit?
Depends on your concentration, but generally juice-like(obviously sans pulp).
Are there others that are better? Accelerade? etc.
I find Infint and Spiz to be my faves. Accelerade tastes like ass.

Take water afterwards for each drink. I've been on custom blended Infinit for over a year now. In one of my first cracks in a training ride at a concentrated blend last year I did not take nearly enough water and payed for it dearly. What I did at IMWI last year worked fine, no gut issues at all on the bike:
Two infinit bottles triple concentrated (6 heavy scoops) or about 900+ calories each. Made one the night before and froze it and put it in my special needs bag. Put the other bottle on my bike.
Bought a cheap ass water bottle for $2 and put that on my bike filled with water.
As I rode I took a nice sip of Infinit every 10 minutes, followed immediately by a sip of water. I also took just water every 5 minutes. At about the second aid station my cheap bottle of water was about out so I tossed it and from then on just got fresh water bottles at aid stations.
By the time I got to the halfway point at special needs my original bottle of infinit was about gone, and was warm to boot. A 10 second stop allowed me to put that bottle in my special needs bag and get my previously frozen triple strength bottle out that was still nice and ice cold. I then just kept the same thing going for the second half of the bike.
Towards the last hour of the ride I did start to 'water down' a time or two my concentrated infinit by dumping a little water into the bottle at an aid station. I started this in training and it allowed me to keep taking in calories without quite the concentrated taste.
I love this stuff and the only bad experience I've had as like I said above when I tried a training ride and did not 'chase' the concentrated mix with water.

You mix it with water. You just do those concentrations in order to have it
in a small package for the event. The osmolity of triple strength would probably
be about 900. No way your system is going to absorb that.

Which I unfortunately learned the hard way per my above post!
But the great thing about it is that even a triple strength drink doesn't really taste bad, and IMO better than gel. You just need to make sure you keep taking in water so your system is absorbing it.

i use a custom blend with abit of protein (dose foam up,so mix it the night before and it does settle) and a
also a smidge of caffeine. having some protein for long distance is worth the foam.
mine isn't too sweet as i requested that. to me infinit is the way to go!
i take along chocolate gel just in case i want something different, but i rarely use it.
so, on the bike i have a 3h bottle of infinit and my aero bottle with water.

doing HIM, not IM, but I haven't seen this method mentioned yet:
for my 4+ hr training rides, I have my aerobottle filled with infinit and carry a tripple serving bottle. When I finish the aerobottle, I pour in about a third of the concentrate, then top off with water. haven't bonked since starting it this spring. Orange tastes better than the fruit punch.

A lot of folks (including myself) are going to say this is the best product ever.
[Custom formula or pre-made formula for IM Distance] Custom formula
[What flavors taste good] I have the lemon line, but the good thing is you can adjust the taste.
[Is this that much better than Hammer Perpetuem?] I just tried Perpetuem and it went pretty well for me (150KM ride on LP course this past weekwend).
It tastes strange (but after several hours on the bike it actually tastes fine) and it is a bit different (kind of like a liquid paste) but it is a nice change (for me).
As an FYI My stomach is quite "friendly" to a lot of stuff.

Pretty much my strategy, too.
I have a bottle on the frame that has 3x infinit in it, and an PD Aquacell on the front. Once an hour, I pour 1/3 of my infinit bottle into the large tank of the AC, and top if off with water from the course. I also keep the small tank of the AC filled with water. Then I drink away. I'm getting the right amount of infinit each hour (plus plenty of extra water), and I never have to drink concentrated infinit. As others have noted, it doesn't taste bad concentrated, but I don't want to hassle with a drink and a chaser each time I drink. This way, I'm only drinking from one source (the aerobottle), and I only have to mess with the frame bottle once an hour.

I use two custom forumlas. The only difference is that one blend has protein and the other does not. I supplement with 1 powerbar (just to have a solid in my stomach) that I have at 45 and 90 miles. I go through 2 bottles with protein on the first 56 and 2 bottles w/o protein for the remainder, I also pick up 1 water and 1 GU on the second loop. My blend is very lightly flavored almost like watered down sports drink.

Cake batter is a good description! I've been using Perpetuem for years and Infinit only recently. If you do the research, on paper Perpetuem (soy protein, lactic acid buffers, no simple sugars) trumps Infinit (whey protein, combination of sugars). That being said, both products deserve your audition, but not too close to your race!
I prefer Perpetuem, but I can use either product with success and I tend to use Infinit on days I expect it to get hot as it seems to withstand the heat better and is definitely more palatable when it warms up.

Our athletes made the move to Infinit this year and nothing but great reviews - I use it successfully as well - the cramping I used to have is gone. I use a custom formula and a D3 formula as well.

Love this stuff, used it for HIM at Kona this year, where it was pretty hot. Custom formula, and I mixed three hours worth (6 scoops) in a single bottle and made sure to drink copious amounts of water after each sip from the concentrated bottle. I kept water in my aero bottle (didn't want sticky stuff all over the top tube). No problems with the taste at all, tolerated it well. Used the pre-race hydration stuff too. Definitely take a look at Infinit.

Some advice on mixing a concentrate. Shaking the powder in a bottle with water causes it to froth too much. I've found that stirring the powder into a large measuring cup with a little water (about 10 oz) allows the powder to dissolve without the froth. Pour the mixture back into the bottle and top off with water. I've done 12 scoops in a bottle without problems this way.

Hey guys-
Just a quick FYI to the response " If you do the research, on paper Perpetuem (soy protein, lactic acid buffers, no simple sugars) trumps Infinit (whey protein, combination of sugars" Not true!
A combination of sugars allows the body to utilize 30% more of the calories available. Therefore 30% more energy... Thats research done by independent guys, not us. As far as the protein goes... keep in mind the reason we use whey is because it is much more stable, especially in the heat. Soy becomes putrid(?) and tastes like moldy socks(for lack of a better adjetive) There is no real scientific reason as to which protein performs.
Sorry just had to jump in on this thread. Tried to sit back and not, but its hard.

Good?......It's Great !
I completed a a 4hr plus ride today and knocked out 6 miles with out any additional fuel on the run.
I found a triple serving bottle with "frequent" sips chased with water works fantastic. I'm using the IM formula. If I make any changes I may add just a touch of protein and dial back on the taste. I'm using the orange. Taste good but the triple mixture is just a tad strong.
I've been recommending this stuff to everyone.

Yeah thats absolutely what you have to do. Always turn down the flavor when you concentrate. Otherwise you get a ton of flavor and "it ain't so great"
