If Chip's race was in California I would so sign up for it and show up in a beach cruiser, and bermuda shorts for the swim, just to antagonize him.

If you really wanted to antagonize him, you'd show up and drown 250 yards from shore.

Agree. Being a newbie to the sport and finishing my first sprint distance tri this past August, I had the answers to those questions months before race day. Being new, my strength (other than my will to train as hard as I can without quitting) was my knowledge. I read and asked all I could before race day. And when it came I really had no suprises and perfomed quite well (again for a 41 year old, never raced before newbie). Anything new, whether it was equpimnent or nutrition was tested real time in training so I knew the results. i tried 3 different gel packets during my bricks months before the race. I made sure my sneakers and bike shoes were properly worn in and not reday to be changed a week before the race. No doubt, lack of preparedness is a destiny for failure in anything in life...

Thank you for doing the right thing.....Fact of the matter is that my first Tri of any distance was IM, second, third and fourth as well....but, I had a solid base from racing bikes at a rather high level (pre-injury). I my first time was sorta lost back in 99...but new with out a doubt that my body could take it and that I had PREPARED to the best that I knew how at the time.

It is not what you do, but how you do it that matters...and, like you - I always try my hardest...and thus have very few regrets.

f.k.a - Record9, Record9ti Record10, Record10ti, Record10Carbon, but not SuperRecord11 as there are no bar ends.
