IM Louisville Water Temp Can't Post

Does anyone know of a web site that gives current temp of the swim site in Louisville. Trying to get an idea if there's a chance it will be wetsuit allowed (sub 84 degrees).

Thanks.

I was visiting Ohio last week and did several swims in the river. Probably 5 hours upstream (by car of course) and it was 77 degrees. my guess is 1-2 degrees warmer down river. Could be more unless you get some serious rainfall...and honestly, you don't want that no matter what. Heavy rain = tons of debris in the water. I would also hope the May flies are done dying off. Nothing like HUGE floating clusters of dead bugs to swim through.

Yeah, after last year I am trying to decide if I'll bring a wetsuit or buy a speedsuit. I'm not in contention for a Kona slot, just want to finish with a good time.

I guess ideal would be to have no rain for a week or so beforehand and a cold front go throught the day prior. But my luck would never go there.

Thanks for the help.

There is a posting on beginner triathlete from a water engineer that lives in Louisville.
I did it last year and based on what I know, there's no way it will ever be a wetsuit swim, it's just too hot at that time of the year.

I could be wrong, but I think the water was boiling last year. I am bringing a heat resistant suit and tin foil.

So will it be a mass start or TT style swim start?

the bulge in my speedo was an ice pack!

Usually when I jump in the water I get that loss of breath sensation or at least a bit of a shock. this felt like jumping into a warm bath.

Overall though just accept that your swim will be 5 minutes slower and don't worry about it. I think it was one of the more picturesque swims (aside from swimming over a reef). Very cool to see the bridges and all the boats out there.

all kidding aside I wasn't that hot without a wetsuit. Also its fast with the current aided swim. In the end the lack of drafting because of the TT start and the lack of wetsuits, just about evens off with currents I think. I went 54:07 at imlp in 06 and 55:05 at IMLOU in 07 and I was generally swimming a touch slower in 07 so thats about right.

What is hard is that the IMLOU course is so weird that you don't really know and can't tell year to year what the swim will be like. You might have a poor swim and set a PR or have the swim of your life and set a PW.
