IMWI Athlete Guide: More Typos...
Can't Post
Lots of typos, again. But does this sound a bit off to you guys? I'd have to think the run course will be pretty thin if they stuck to this cut-off time:
Page 14
13. Cyclists still on the course after 1:30PM will be
disqualified and will not be permitted to continue in the event
http://www.ironmanwisconsin.com/2008IMWSAI.pdf
Or am I just reading this wrong???

That should be 5:30 p.m., I believe.

According to past IM's yes, 5:30 is the correct time. Just amazing how something like that can be sent out. I knew right away it was way off, but some poor athlete out there might be running around their house in a panic!

After seeing the URL, where they abbreviated Wisconsin WS, I didn't expect much but that's a pretty big typo. That one caught my attention immediately.
There are some BOPers in a full on panic figuring out how they're going to pull a 4:30 bike split after a 2 hour swim.

Well, that's one way to get the BOP'rs out of doing IMNA events!

Maybe I missed it, but there is nothing in the run section about not having an ipod? hmmmm...... Could I take a copy of the guide with me out on the course and present it to the marshall that would be giving me the warning?

Look on page 11, message from the head referee. "Other violations include failure to wear race number, riding or running with an IPOD, Thump, or any other musical device and littering."

You're not reading it wrong, but what NAS meant to write is that cyclists have to be at mile 56 (Old PB and Whalen) by 1:30 PM. The final (112 mile) bike cut-off is 5:30 PM.
I'll mention this to them and see if they can make it more clear AND maybe clean up the typos.

Yea but the 10:30 hour marathon split would give plenty of time to work out the stress from hammering the bike.

Three of us read it, I also saw this and thought WTF, then I remembered from last year that this is the 56 mile cutoff time, but I did think it needed a little clarification. Oh well have to do something with the extra time while tapering, just waiting for race numbers to be posted. That always puts such finality on the whole thing, kind of makes it real.
On a side note I watched last years IMWIS yesterday and was watching the swim and had flash backs of how slow that damn manona(sp.?) terrace building moves past on the swim. (I know the building does not move, but while I am swimming neither do I) Seems like that building lasts forever.

I agree about the Terrace lasting forever. I started breathing only to my left so I didn't have to see that thing creep by on lap 1! Every once in a while I'd switch back and it felt like I went nowhere. Oh wait, I think that was actually the case. Life of a "not so fast swimmer" I guess.

Did anyone catch page 16's typo? Under Temperature Problems Hypothermia- Typical weather in "Oceanside in March". Looks like they tried to copy and paste as much of this as they could.

This is the new IM policy to get rid of buggy pushers at the finish line. (wink)

NAS is always using old copies of athlete guides from other races and just updating them...drives me nuts.

Noted.
I'll put some pressure on the NAS crew. It's not good to dis Dubuque.

Ditto.
They just need to be more diligent with their editing ... and they should.

What's a buggy pusher?;)
Actually, NAS has been using this policy for a while on multiple loop bike courses. If you can't get to 56m by 1:30 PM, you're not going to make it to the Terrace by 5:30. I think it makes for safer traffic control.
