ha, part time 30-40 hours a week, I should be good. Im planning on upping the training this year. Finally taking some advice and getting faster on short course before I go long.

No training is going to be the best thing to do, but wondering what other people do, plus I would like to have better tools. Although its fun to beat people with what I got now. I just am hoping to bring my bike up to my swim, cause then I'm looking pretty good

My question is if you get a wheel cover for the back, do you get a race wheel for the front?

No training is definitely the best way to get faster.

Or, maybe he forgot a coma. Then no training would be very easy to do. He could *dream* about getting faster.

It's quite simple. If you want to race faster, then you have to train faster. Everything else is secondary.

i improve my biking by reading threads on how to better my riding..and laughing at them.
It's not about the bike, it's just along for the ride.

specifically those threads that attempt to categorize 'their' habitual and losing cause way over the right way, the ~ i see you're a weak punk and i knew it all along way~ because you can't think or ride for yourself because all you have as an invite into you being you is being you on here or anywhere which in the end only amounts to just that, you.

my two cents and not directed at anyone in particular, unless it's you. :)

the last buTt not least of my rant is that i pay no attention to those who have come to the conclusion that what they know of riding because of what the mass majority knows of riding is all that riding is capable of offering me.

the name is roadhouse and for a reason. you pansies should reconsider. oops, you have no choice now do you?

*disclaimer-pansies are to those who i know and who i think believe that their riding is my riding. it's not. their riding, your riding, as a whole is transparent.

now let's talk running. :)

So why is your name roadhouse, is it because you look like patrick swayze? I really am just trying to understand a single part of that winded, incoherent rant you just laid down. Either way I think we found the dude that crank called Paul Tx! Maybe its just Halloween, but you are scaring me dude!!!!!

Re: How Should I Improve My Biking? (Revised) [JustinD] [In reply to] Can't Post

Alright so I have made my decision. From everything that I have been reading I should get a power meter. I believe that this will be the tool that will be of greatest value (well along with the wheel cover I plan on getting). The question is should I have the hub installed into the wheel that I have right now (Shimano WH-R550) and pay $599, or should I buy this set up 2009 CycleOps Power Tap Comp/DT RR 465 Complete Wheel, where I would be getting a new wheel as well.

I do not know too much about this other rim, but is it worth the extra money to get this rim as well? Thanks again for all of the help guys, and tigerchiks!

Keep it simple and lace the Powertap hub to an Open Pro rim. Makes it easy to do tire changes and is a really simple setup.

Re: How Should I Improve My Biking? [JustinD] [In reply to] Can't Post

I did exactly what you are looking at doing. Went from my old Cervelo Dual (2005) last November when it broke and upgraded to a P2. My bike mph was HORRIBLE at that time (~16mph for Oly) and I did not want to be the guy getting passed by mountain bikes on my new shiny toy. Put in 2 Computrainer classes a week over the winter and then ramped biking up during the spring and summer. End result in less than a year = 1:05 (~23mph) at an oly and 2:40 (~21mph) at a half.

Over that time my biggest weeks were a little over 200 miles but the average weekly volume for the year was right around 100. Still don't consider myself "fast" but now I at least don't get passed by mountain bikes or people sitting up in their hoods;)

p.s
I also lost 40 lbs, went from couch to 20-30 mpw running, and started swimming again all in the same year. Doing first IM next Sunday!!!!!!!!

Hire a quality coach and bike fit first then invest in a TT helmet (biggest band for the buck), then a Disc (fastest upgrade period), then a front wheel (second fastest upgrade you can but, tied with an aero helmet). An aero frame set doesn't make a huge different in terms of speed.

I do like the computrainers, I have one and love it. I also have a powertap and love it, but the computrainer is awesome for TT/Tri training. You can set it for a specific wattage and teach your body to stay there. Lets say that you figured out that a 300 watt average will give you X result over Y distance. You can train for that wattage and stay there for hours no matter how mentally tired you are.

Computrainer is OK but you can't race with it. You also cannot train outdoors with it. You can train indoors and outdoors with a Powertap, which is a big advantage. You also do not need to spend the $$ for a real disk. Just get a wheel cover for the Powertap hub. Seems like a more logical decision to me.

Re: How Should I Improve My Biking? [Mike Prevost] [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't know how wheel covers match up in the wind tunnel compared to discs but I'd guess that a disc is faster and stiffer... Tangent to follow: Except for the Zipp Sub 9. That disc is a P.O.S. I was much faster on my Corima. The Sub 9 is so flimsy it bounces off of my chain stays during mild accelerations and on corners it's BAD! It's the worst disc I've ever used and I'm my opinion it's the worst disc I've ever seen.

Ok, but I am not sure what stiffness has to do with anything. We are not talking about racing crits. An Open Pro or Deep V rim, laced to a Powertap hub with disk cover will be plenty stiff (not that it matters) and very close to a disk in terms of aerodynamics (because it is a disk).
