Happy 234th Birthday U.S. Marine Corps
Can't Post
Thanks to all that have served our country tomm on veterans day. A special thanks to my fellow brothers of the Corps. Let the true honor of our fighting men and women never be forgotten. I feel there are many that pay little attention or have forgotten the value and security that is taken for granted living inside the borders of the U.S.

Happy Birthday my friends! On this day 25 years ago I was on Parris Island less than 2 weeks away from graduation. 3rd Battalion I Company. To this day I still remember they served us steak, lobster and corn on the cob. The things you remember... I celebrated this past weekend with my first 50 miler!

Not sure what your angle is with your reply. If you have not served you would not know what being honorable is, you are being judgemental. What is truly an oxymoron is the fact that there are many young men and women that would put themselves in harms way for a coward that sits back and rides the wings of freedom and judges those who honor this country while in uniform.

Yawn. Its called indoctrination, it is common as muck.
I have served my country, as a Police constable, putting myself in harms way daily and looking after my own back yard. Dont get me wrong, Im sure you believe in what you do, your conscience is clear and you perform your duties with honour. What Im saying is if someone attacks your country, then yeah, you guys are incredibly brave and are serving your culture with all sorts of awesomeness. I have to draw the line though in going to foreign countries who have not asked for help and imposing your cultural norms at your leaders geopolitical whim (This is not intended to be aimed solely at the US, the same can be said for many, many countries with expansionist agendas). I mean no disrespect to you or your peers, its just a clash of world views. My country is generally strongly against military expansionist endeavour, to such an extent that we rowed our dinghys and hit your nuclear armed ships and subs with oars in protest at their presence, defending OUR country - is this cowardly? It worked and your ships have never come back. We decided that having nuclear armed military vessels in our country increased our levels of risk, and because your military can neither confirm nor deny what vessels are nuclear armed, they are not welcome. My country is tiny with a population of just over 4 million - One of your aircraft carriers could defeat our entire military apparatus without so much as a scratch. We have to use different tactics which do not involve waving a stick. This is how
I
have been indoctrinated
My country has no real enemies as a result of a consistent pacifist foreign policy, we ride the wings of freedom without feeling the need to dictate the direction of travel - genuine freedom, not freedom at the end of a mighty big stick.
Again, I mean no disrespect, and my sincerest apologies if I cause offence - I just find it hard to keep my mouth shut when confronted by attitudes I strongly disagree with, not unlike you and your cohorts
Peace!

You do understand that who we fight and where we fight (and if we fight) is not decided by men and women in uniform? That decision is made by elected politicians. The men and women in uniform serve with honor, even in a war that may or may not be "honorable" because they have promised to do so. They do not have a choice and fulfilling your sworn duty is still an honorable thing to do. Anything different would be a military dictatorship.
Oh...HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARINES!

I get where you are coming from. It is fine to disagree with the policy and the war. Many in uniform here feel the same way. People get touchy when they feel like someone is blaming those in uniform for the war. Soldiers are generally pawns of the politicians. When the President says go over there and fight those people, you go. You don't have a choice. And that system works well. If the military had an option to do what they wanted, they would simply take over, like they do in military dictatorships. Having civilian control over the military is the right thing to do, even though sometimes many in the military are not in agreement with how they are deployed or where and who they fight.

Such as...?
There have been some fine discussions here on the military's influence on triathlon, so I click on this thread...and nothing.
Someone post something relevant, please...

Seriously this blind following the stupid thing you guys have going on in the good old USA would be really funny to the rest of us, if it wasn't for the fact you guys keep killing poor people around the world and f*ing up the world in general. But at least your gas prices are low. U.S.A, U.S.A!!!!
Some self reflection and occasionally asking questions of the government your corporations put in power would not make you unpatriotic. Quite the opposite.
Oh and killing poor people and calling it fighting for freedom does not make it so.

Hey mmmike
I am sure we'll get the call whenever your homeland gets into any kind of situation your incapable of handling. And guess what, our men and women will show up and defend your freedom too. Even though you'll repay us with your ungratefulness.

I wouldn't call it the blind following the stupid, but I guess from an outsider's POV it may appear as that.
I won't speak for anyone but me on this, but for myself it is a matter of respect for those that do what they do regardless of public opinion or politics. They are devoted and are willing to put their ass on the line for people like me.
My father, my uncle and a few of my friends were marines. So those mean bastards hold a special place in my heart.
I don't need to subscribe to the politics of past or present leaders to honor the service or the birthday of the US marine corp.
FWIW I am/was the peace lovin', war hatin', dope smokin' hippie for a good portion of my life.
I do question our govt, and usually disagree. I feel that those who have died for the US would have died in vain if we were not able to question and disagree with the acts and direction of the political leaders.
I agree that killing people and calling it fighting for freedom as you say does not make it so, but that is not the topic of this post. It was turned into a political discussion by those that do not understand the valor and honor of what it means to be a marine.
So, in respect for my father, family and friends as well as those I do not know that have served and are serving now, I say SEMPER FI Mother Fu**ers!

Wow thanks.
Even if you go by the white house numbers the US from bush 1 through clinton is responsible (bombings and sanctions) for the deaths of a 1/2 million CHILDREN in Iraq. This is even before bush 2 was "elected". When will you people wake up and look in the mirror. "Your" Government is not helping people they are killing people. The US IS THE PROBLEM, not the solution.
God just messaged me, he does not want you to kill poor people.

The exact same logic can be applied to the Nazi storm troopers who were proudly serving Germany. Blindly following orders is not patriotic and it does not Honor anyone to pretend that it does. If you want to honor your father, uncle etc. why not do so by actively opposing more young Americans killing and being killed for moronic reasons?
Why don't some of those "brave" Marines do something brave and stand up to their government and go rebuild even a little bit of the damage they have caused around the world?
