HRM strap compatibility	Can't Post

I've searched the forum and found a number of posts indicating that Garmin and PowerTap HRM straps are compatible. I'm just curious if it is only one direction, i.e. Garmin straps work with PT but not vice-versa. I've got a PT and I would like to use the strap with either a Garmin Forerunner 305 or 405 (haven't decided which yet) and avoid purchasing the Garmin strap.

I believe if the strap is ANT+ it will work either way. I use my Garmin strap w/ my PT so I can just continue on the run w/ my garmin after the bike.

I wish you could use a polar strap with the PT as that would be the best.

As the above post mentions all the new garmin and powertap straps use ANT+ technology, so "they go both ways". If you use a new strap on any given day then you may need to get the computer to recognize it!

I have this exact problem. I'm using a new Garmin 305 and PT 2.4 both with ANT+sport HR straps.

I cant get my Garmin HR strap to work with the PT..any ideas? Do I have to do some setup on the PT??

Follow the steps on page 31 of the manual but change the hub to HS first. Ensure that there are no other heart rate straps within about 30' of you when you do this. This is how I got my Garmin strap to work with my PT computer.

I have used the new coded PT strap with my FR305. It was much harder to go this way because linking a strap with the Garmin is not as intuitive. Make sure there are no other straps around when linking. Best to go outside and do it.
