yes. but i don't think this alone banishes you to the 9th circle of hell. he's pre-annouced this, so, no slight of hand, eh? come on, don't you think this'll be fun?!

OK, I 'watched' or rather listened ... figure I waste enough time here, what is another 10 mins ;)
Wow. Don't know what to think, other than I wouldn't trust that guy with even parking my car! Might be the whole NY/NJ thing, but he does provide a lot of evidence. My gut feeling is that this guy does love endurance events (hence his 100 mile buckle, etc.), but knows he is slow (he said 5-10 and 210 lbs? Don't know how you could be with all that he claims to do). Even provided lots of his very modest to slow times. He probably wanted a good time (since he did 3 IMFL before) since he seems to know all his times, was familiar with the race, and was trying to cut off some swim time and got caught.
At any rate, great idea on the website, but as was mentioned, if people have to sign up 1 year in advance - who wants to "ruin" their IM time just to do this "challenge"? I've lost track of how many marathons I've run and only care about my PR (many moons ago) or my next one ...

This is great!!!! None of us know the real fin story. But, I sure know folks said it was not him running the marathon.
But, he sure is going to tell ST to put up or shut up. So, who is going to join him? I know he is more of a stud than I
if he pulls this off!
Shall be fun to watch! Great marketing!!!!!!

Actually, no, I don't think this'll be fun. I'll give you a URL that might make you reconsider the attention you intend to give this guy: www.ibelievetyler.com.

Get a blood transfusion or use EPO and get a 2 year ban. Draft and get a 5 min penalty. Use fins and you get a 1 year ban. If Finman was really smart, he would have used EPO cause they don't test age groupers for that, and he'd have drafted his ass all the way to T2, take the 5 minute penalty and gotten his PB.
At least he is smarter than Tyler cause he only got 1 year!

Is he a relative of Jason G's by any chance? Seems like a similar bloodline.

By the way, what ever happened to Cowman? Anyone remember him on Kona?------------------------------
he's listed on this year's IMH race list. i think it's under the As---as in ah-moo-ha, ken (? on the first name). either 60-64 or 65-69.

we've done live coverage of a race where only two people (who mattered to you all) were racing: bjorn and tyler. and it's probably the biggest live coverage day we've ever had. i don't care if there's only one person in the finman challenge. if he shows, and starts, aren't you interested in seeing if he can pull it off?

Who are the sponsors lined up for the live coverage? You figure speedo Zoomers will want the event named after them. Has finman sold naming rights yet, or is the finman challenge like Yankee Stadium, still languishing without a corporate label?

oh who cares
. let's just stipulate that he wore the fins, notwithstanding his protestation. either way he's manning up about this, assuming he follows through. this is geraldo opening up al capone's vault live on TV. bravo i say.
Dan, your lefty side is showing again. ;)
I care
whether or not he lied initially...and whether or not he's crafted a web of lies to support the first one.
I don't particularly care if he's a marketing genius or not if the answer to the above questions are yes.
Regarding his post IM marathon, it should be a pretty simple matter to track down his race number and race photos to confirm whether or not he was there.

Hi guys. i just cant help myself but this will give the guy more publicity. I was there standing in the water at the exit of the first lap. i was the first one at the water's edge. there was no one in front of me. i watched the the pros come through then every age grouper after that.
drum roll please..... i saw it with my own eyes. he was 5 feet away from me. i saw him pull both of them off. i watched him release them and push them so they would float down the beach. i watched him run up the sand and enter the water. he then walked down into the water grabbed both fins and walked through the water leaning down so no one could see them under the water. i then watched as the official came over to him on the sea doo and he picked them up and tossed them in the water and took off. end of story. case closed.
I have a few medals also, but i keep them in a box in the garage. do we all honestly race for people other than ourselves?

but then, if he gets back up and goes 3-for-3 at the finman challenge, what medieval flagellant has done more to atone?

As far as I'm concerned, this lying, cheating, attention-seeking, grand-standing chub ball represents everything that's wrong with triathlon, and I wouldn't want to be associated with it in any way. He's looking for validation that he does not deserve.

He thought 2 fins were a fish and he kicked at them to see if it was alive? BS............He could sell ice to the eskimos..........
The only thing I don't get is the NYC marathon? Is there a pic of him in the race that day?
If he does do the challenge, that's cool, but it doesn't erase wearing fins in a triathlon. He's forever marked in as a goober in my book.

Yeah thats true. Not that I doubt his story, but if he was wearing fins, isnt 44 mins really bad? 45 mins is what I can swim 1.2 miles in, and I've swam with fins in a pool once, and they def. make you faster.
So was he wearing fins and just basically snorkeling along the loop at that slow of a pace?
As far as the pic of the NYC marathon, I think I remember seeing him and it was noting he did IMFL the day before or something like that.
BTW, was finman trying to sue people who were saying things about him? I remember a friend of mine saying she had to remove the info about him on her blog, because she could get in trouble? Was that true/possible?

well, sez you. and, i respect your view. i really do. if i race 10-flat and get beat by someone who cheated, yes, i'd be pissed. but if i race 14 hours and get beat that way, i reckon i've got other things more important to think about, maybe that's just me.
in any case, whether he cheated or not (and i acknowledge the consensus view, which is that he did), i think there is a way to redeem oneself even if an acknowledgment and apology was not forthcoming, and that is through penance. me, i'd much rather say, "yes, i used the fins!" than to do what frank pledges to do. i think he's taking the much more difficult road.
if he starts, that is. and if he does start, we'll be there to make sure there is no slight of hand. at some point, when he's crawling, bloody knees, yellow froth, third degree sunburn, i expect that to eclipse the fins.
if he does not start, then, i think he's heaped that many more calumnies on his head and probably rightly so.
