GlobalSat Personal GPS Sport Watch Can't Post

I just happened upon this today. Does anyone have experience? It seems to have a smaller formfactor than the 405 and a much lower price.

Just went to their website and looked at the manual. Very promising. Would love to hear more.

Yeah, me too. Herbert / Dan / Rapp - would be a nice product to review. OR if you want to score one, I can do the review for you.

Re: GlobalSat Personal GPS Sport Watch [Learn] [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for those links, Learn and JP.

I downloaded and read the manual; here's what I found.

On the plus side:

-Waterproof! (I hope it's REALLY waterproof; I didn't see any depth limits: makes me suspicious)
-Looks a bit smaller than the FR 305 (I'm not sure it's smaller than the 405, though)
-No cradle necessary for computer hookup, only a wire.
-Price: $170.00 !
-Did I mention that it's WATERPROOF?

On the negative side:

-Screen looks small.
-Numbers on the screen look very small. (ie no way to limit data displayed per screen to make numbers larger for old, blurry, sweat-filled eyes, like the Garmin FR 305 does)
-Not sure about this company: no track record that I know of, at least, although they seem to sell a lot of related type electronic products.
-Cadence sensor? Didn't see one.
-Included software seems to be PC only. Maybe Macs don't need it though.

I wonder if it will work with Motion Based.

It is not waterproof. It has the same rating as a forerunner. So fine in the rain but not to swim with.

Forerunner is fine to SWIM with.

Not to be diving for scallops with.

let me bookmark this page because two weeks from now, you all will be bitching about poor sattelite reception, and bad pace/distance reading.

Interesting. I'd be curious as to what the reception is like. Don't the Garmins have some fancy highly sensitive receiver in them?

I have a 405 and it appears that this watch uses the same SIRF III chip that the Garmin uses?

Anyway, I'd be a little leary of this anyway - but I"m certainly curious.

Like any Garmin thread?

I don't think anyone here will buy one; was just looking to see if anyone on ST owned one.
