Gary Fisher Presidio Cross Bike - Comments/Reviews anyone? Can't Post

Got a possible deal on a Gary Fisher Presidio cross bike for $1499. It is my understanding that this steel bike is hand made right down the road from me in Waterloo, WI. Full SRAM Rival. Looks like a very nice bike.

Anyone have any experience with this bike?

That was about the same deal I had when looking for a CX bike a month ago. They are solid bikes and I was dead set on one however I wound up buying a Specialized Tricross just because I thought the Tricross would be lighter. I've never heard anyone say anyone bad about owning one. I'm just lukewarm about my Tricross though.

I own Gary Fisher MTB but for some reason the steel on the Presidio put me off. That's my two cents...

I'm guessing he means steel is generally heavier.

My quick google research shows the Specialized Tricross Sport as 21.6 lbs in size 56. Same size Gary Fisher Presidio is listed at 18.9 lbs. Again, that's my quick google result.

Cannot find frame weights, which is what I really would like to compare.

This bike looks absolutely sweet. Velonews gave it a really good review a few months ago. I don't think most people realize how awesome the sliding rear drop out is!! This thing could be a sweet single speed/fixed too. I really would like to get one.

I believe that the Presidio is basically the same bike as the Lemond Poprad which was popular. I have a friend who commutes and races his Presidio and I've never heard him complain.

I have this bike built up with full Dura ace. I use it strictly for winter riding. The steel rides great and I have no complaints with it. This was built in Waterloo so i couldn't pass it up. I built it to my specs so there is noting stock on it. I added the carbon bars and the bike rides like a dream.

I assumed the steel weighed more, I'm not 100% sure about it now. I have heard good things about steel now like it rides better than alloy.

That's what I read also, I'm not 100% sure that's accurate, my Tricross weighs 19 Lbs on a fish scale. The Presidio would be easier to lift & carry I think just looking at the lines.

Yes, I guess I have a little buyers remorse but the Tricross was a little cheaper.

Not any more. When the Fisher road bikes were first introduced, they were essentially re-badged LeMonds.

The current Presidio is really a brand new bike with some unique features, not a re-badge.

As far as I can tell 2009 is the first year for the Fisher Presidio and the 2010's are not posted on the GF website. I'd bet that if the OP is getting a "deal" on a bike right now, it's a 2009. But only he knows.

The changes/updates listed here sound interesting: http://www.bikeradar.com/...10-road-launch-22559

I am nearly positive it is a 2009, but, have not been able to stop out and look at it yet.

Re: Gary Fisher Presidio Cross Bike - Comments/Reviews anyone? [JSA] [In reply to] Can't Post

I have an '09 Presidio with the "older" style frame (non adjustable dropouts). I love it. I train through the winter, and race cross in the fall. My 61 weighs in at about 21 lbs stock (Bontrager Race wheels). The sram rival shifts great in all conditions. The only change I might make is the crank. Since I do train on it I might put a compact crank rather than the stock cx crank to give me more range. One other nock is the rear wheel clearance. After a year of ridding I needed to put some clear coat over where debris (mud and other cx stuff) rubbed all the paint. Overall great bike for the price, my favorite bike to ride, not sure if its the steel or not.

The 'original' Presidio, which was a re-badged Poprad, was black on the Fisher website and definitely didn't have the sliding rear dropout.

My guess is that it's a 2009 if it's being 'discounted,' although the price doesn't seem like a huge discount. I own a 2008 Poprad (same frame as the 2009 Presidio) and paid $700 for the fork+frame.

I'm very happy with my Poprad, which I got for commuting as it has eyelets on the rear and fork, so I could add fenders and a rack. It's a very versatile bike. Everyone should have a steel steed.
