Garmin Forerunner 405 at REI?	Can't Post

I just checked the ROI website and it says they have 405 inventory. Has anyone bought one or tried to buy one? I don't want to order it just to have them tell me it's backordered.

Just called. Store said they didn't have any in the store. Web site said if I ordered today it would arrive at my house May 1 or I could pick it up at the store May 7. The guy I talked to at ROI said: "if we show it on our web site then you should receive it when the site says."

Go for amazon.com. I bought a 305 from them about two months ago and they shipped it the same day. Paid $215 for it plus $11 for next day air.

Good point...I'm sure a mom & pop shop like amazon can only afford to carry one model.

That mom and pop shop also sells 10x as much product, and thus sells out instantly when new "toys" come out.

Additionally - Amazon does not have the 405 for sale yet....

Great point though - amazon rules for garmin gear!

I had one on order from REI backordered for 3 weeks or so. Got an email yesterday saying it shipped. So I guess they have them.

I was told at the Boston expo that Garmin had the 405 in their booth. I never got a chance to take a look.
But, I was under the impression one could have purchased one there, but I did not hear this first hand.
Will be interested to hear folks impressions on how it works. Sure enjoy my 305.

It says "water resistant", but does this mean you can now use it in the pool/lake/ocean like a Timex? Or does water resistant just mean ie rain and slight splashes? Anybody anybody???

It says in the manual to not swim with it. It is really only meant to get wet in rain.

I ordered from REI on Wednesday (the day they first showed available), and received it yesterday from them. I just ordered via their website, and paid for 2 day shipping. If you sign up to be on their mailing list, you can get a one time 15% off coupon, which I was able to use as well. I have used the 405 twice, and so far, so good.
