French triathlete on holidays in British Columbia Can't Post

Hello Everyone,

i'm new on ST forum (but consulting threads for a long time !).

My girlfriend and I, coming from Paris, France, are going to race IM in Penticton this summer.

Before, we plan to spend some holidays in British Columbia, round Vancouver (especialy Halfmoon Bay).
And we can't manage to know, with all these islands, if its possible to go for long and good bike rides (from 80 to 150 km)...

If someone lives near from there, can you give me some informations and good bike circuits for the training ?

Thanks a lot.

Merci beaucoup !

The race will be OK I hope cause I know how to train.
But I don't know very much how to train/enjoy holidays/prepare the whole travel/etc.

Hopefully, my girlfriend and I try to learn fast !!

Bonjour, bieveneau au Canada.

Do not worry about finding long bike routes in Vancouver and British Columbia. If you have time go to Whistler and you will find even more places to ride.

The Islands are all connected by bridges and there are many cyclists in Vancouver. mapmyride.com will give you access to routes in Vancouver that will work for your plans.

Bon chance pour IMC.

Halfmoon Bay isn't exactly Vancouver. I don't know what the road quality is like up that way. Very cool place to spend some time though!

Sechelt/Gibsons (Halfmoon Bay area) is a great place for road riding. The "highway" isn't overly crowded with cars and everyone over that way is extremely relaxed - you won't be finding the road rage at cyclists that you can find in major cities.

You'll have a great trip! :)

I am from Vancouver, there are a number of us STers that live here. PM me and I might be able to help, dont have much info about riding sunshine coast but if you want to know routes around Vancouver itself I can help. Also there was a thread in ladies forum about riding up in Whistler if you are heading up that way

It's also really fun riding in addition to the stunning scenery. That highway just rolls...

I'll be back in Vancouver at the end of July so maybe there is the opportunity to hook up.
I'd also be happy to put you in touch with some other folks in the North Vancouver area who are training for IMC - PM me your e-mail address.

Halfmoon Bay is on the Sunshine Coast which is a 45 minute (plus long delays in the summer :( ) ferry ride from greater Vancouver.

If training is your focus, though, you really can't beat the Penticton area and may want to consider heading straight up there and then touring the coast after the race. The Sunshine coast is not bad but it's basically one highway that you can ride. Vancouver has lots of scenic rides, some ski hills to climb, etc. Definitely a nice place to visit it's also somewhat congested and you will and that getting out east of the city is generally best for long rides.

Hope that you have a great trip!

Thanks everybody for your answers,

it's clearer (more clear ?)

following your advices, we're changing our plans and going to Halfmoon Bay for (deserved) rest after IMC.
Before the race, we'll search something around Vancouver and approach Penticton 6 or 7 days before.

Hey there sab2go. Sorry for going off topic here but I'm just trying to understand something. Are you guys actually the "official" shop for IMC and will you guys be doing the support cars on the course for the race?
