Great story.

I am kind of an idiot about mechanical stuff. Could Bobby J tell just by sight that the wheel was going to work? Aren't there a lot of things that could have mismatched?

Not really...crappy shifting is better than a broken wheel

Mediocre is just that...When did it start becoming a life goal?

so nobody commented on it- but how well does a 9 speed cassette work with 10 speed shifters/chain? did he just leave it in your 11/12 and grind it out- or can a 10 speed set up work -okay- with a 9 speed cassette.

great story, great pics!

Your signature is incorrectly spelled.

??? which part do you think is incorrect? Unless you want to add some sort of unnecessary Canadian "U" in there? ;-)

Ahh.. you know... I've only see than phrase spelled incorrectly.

After a quick google, your signature is indeed correct.

If you want it Canadian, there should be an "eh?" at the end. :-)

I would gladly trade any of my rear wheels for a story like that, the busted up 404, and photos. Even if you don't get anything back from them, you're waaay ahead of the game!

This photo on a frame with the wheel and a copy of you post on Slowtwitch. Priceless. Regardless of anything in the future, it is a great moment. Isnt't that the great thing about sports...these moments...the fact you were IN the race via your wheel makes that even cooler. Congratulations and thanks for sharing a cool bike story....have been reading about so many uncool stories in cycling, so nice to hear yours.

I miss you "Sports Night"

Those are the road skills you develop after being in the pro peloton for more than a decade. I think most of us amateurs would have bit it.

Great story! This proves that fancy wheels have very little to do with winning. Its all about the motor!
