Felt DA and Campy???
Can't Post
Anyone have any success building up a DA with Campy? How does the rear brake fit? What type of bars? I ride a stock DA with dura ace but my buddy is contemplating building one up and he is a Campy only type of guy (let's leave the DA vs Campy comments for another thread please ;) ).
Anyways, your comments and feedback are appreciated. Thanks!

I hope SuperDave can chime in on this, because I'm not 100% sure. However, I believe the brake on Campy is too wide to fit in between the crankarms. I know it is measurably wider than Dura-Ace, which just fits. However, there are plenty of other rear brakes that will work besides Dura-Ace, the most notable being ZeroGravity and Tektro/Oval "scissor" brake. But there are also some boutique ones that haven't been tried that I think probably will as well.
So is your question, really, does Campy work or are you simply asking if the Campy rear brake will work? Everything about Campy will work on the bike except the rear brake. But that's also true, incidentally, about SRAM. If you want every single part on your bike to match and to be of the same groupset, then you have to stick with Shimano.
Again, that's my best recollection (at least on the Campy brake; everything else I'm sure of).

Yes, I guess my question is ultimately 'will a campy rear brake caliper work on a Felt DA'. I wanted to leave the question more open ended to see if there were any other potential issues that I may not be aware of.
Thanks for your input - you confirmed exactly what I suspected.

I know that Sram Red didn't fit so if Campy is larger, it may be an issue. Zero G's fit perfect.

a bike shop wrench who rides campy also has told me that the campy cranks will not work either. i think it's because of the brake placement. campy has a narrower q factor and so it hits the rear brake (any model brake).
just what i heard.

Thanks for your post, I've answered this a few times before and it is good to have this information published as often as possible, so I thank you again for the opportunity.
The Campagnolo crankset is one of the narrowest Q-factor cranks on the market, however their caliper is one of the widest. It isn't a problem with the DA itself, it is the caliper that is simply too wide to fit between the crank arms. The aero placement of the brakes prevents its use. I suspect your friend would have no problem using a Tektro/TRP/Oval brake as I bet he's not using Campagnolo brake levers either. I have an 11speed group that I hope to check the 11t clearance with the dropout very soon. I understand the clearance to be the same to the centerline of the cog, and with the narrower chain, this should actually IMPROVE clearnance vs. 10 speed.
Also, be sure to use the new 4mm campy housing as the 4.5mm housing requires additional work to run through the frame. Other than Campangolo's lack of aero brake lever offering and and their design preventing the relocation of the caliper to fit between the cranks, the Italian stuff is a great choice.
