Feedback on SoCal Bonelli Park Tris?
Can't Post
Hi all. I'm a nocaler who grew up in socal (Claremont). I used to do a lot of rides in Bonelli Park (used to ride to Mt Sac for school). I'm thinking of coming down to do the Bonelli Olympic race in October. Anyone have good/bad feedback on this race series? Thanks-Chris

I've done five or six of these races. I signed up for the Oly race in June and will probably do the one in October too. Nice place to do a tri. Races usually start at 8:00 with the swim in the reservoir. I like swimming there because it's fresh water, not salt water. The bike course is pretty much around the perimeter of the park. Mostly flat with one long gradual climb and a very steep descent. The Oly race is three times around. Traffic is usually very light and there are police directing traffic at key intersections. The bike course and the run course are separate so you don't have bikes dodging runners. The price is pretty reasonable at $70 (USAT) and I think parking is $6. Lastly, there are not a ton of people that show up to these races so it doesn't get very crowded.

Your description brings back memories. There was a time many years ago when Puddlestone water wasn't exactly thought of as "clean" Glad to hear it's better now. I used to do the loop there quite a lot and know the climb you are referring to quite well. Thanks for the feedback. I'm in for this one in Oct. I can take my kids to the water slides afterward if they are still open in Oct.

TriDad called the water "fresh" (non-salty), not "clean". I think Puddingstone tastes like a powerboat exhaust pipe.

The
www.ragingwaters.com
website doesn't list October hours yet, but I get the impression they won't be open.
That race has been around a looong time, and I keep going back. They do a good job of keeping it simiple, and keeping it fun. Signups & more info can be found at

I've been doing the LATS for 5 years now and did the BOD last October. It's a really good venue and has a great cast of regulars. I'll be there in a couple of weeks and probably in October. Look for me.
