Entree fees, how much?
Can't Post
From what I hear on this forum this triathlon thing is really expensive as far as entree fees are concerned. How much is it anyway? more than $100?
Why is this? Is it really that expensive to organize or is someone making money from it? Is there an extensive amount of service I don't know about? Is triathlon also this expensive in Europe?
I live in the Netherlands and mainly do bike events in my own country, Belgium and France. Such an event is for example a 175km bike race through a hilly terrain. The entry fee is approx. $30, and can go up to $60 if it is a really big, special event (like the "Marmotte" in the French Alpes). With race I mean a timed event, a esults list is published, but most participants are there to try and beat themselves or their friends, not to win the event.
These events have volunteers guarding the road-crossings, several food/drink-stops along the course and usually some king of pasta-party afterwards. What more do you need and why can this be done in europe for only $30?

Triathlon is quite different from cycling. At least 10 times more expensive to organise (Svimming with resque team), change zones etc. Since it has to be located near water, the cycling & running route might not be ideal = more guards etc. During the cycling, the competitors are all over the route (start & cycle individual) = more guards......
Non-IM triathlons (at IM distance) costs at least 100EURO, IM 250 EURO all over Europe. Shorter, local races are cheaper.
