Re: Early Morning Training - Too Lazy [djciii] [In reply to] Can't Post

I imagine myself at the end of a race missing my goal by 5 seconds because I missed today's workout.......... Ultimately it is all about having bigger picture goals that drive painful behavior daily.

But on the logistical front - - I don't drink coffee - so my caffiene boost before training comes in the form of a caffiene pill. Put it on the nightstand, and before you hit snooze - take the caffiene. The caffiene starts to kick in, and usually no more than a second snooze is required to have me up and on my way.

Now - the flying alarm clock looks like a great addition to my plan - if it goes off about 15 minutes after the caffiene........ I am afraid, however, that I would end up with cat shit all over my room when that thing takes off and our felines' bowels explode with fear.

Just get them accustomed to it by chasing them around the house with one of these things, like I do:

Over 900 days bike crash free.

Re: Early Morning Training - Too Lazy [djciii] [In reply to] Can't Post

Two things that are most important IMO:
1. Get to bed early the night before. It's tough to wake up at 5 if you go to sleep at 1 AM.
2. Train with someone else. As a HS and college swimmer, I swam 7 and 4 mornings a week, respectively. In the off season, I was lucky to get up for 1 morning swim per week. If you have others counting on you to be there, you're less likely to blow off the workout.

So, I put it to you Sters..what has works for you...what gets you out of bed...(I know, HTFU, but what else)

Well simply, that thats some of the most ideal *free* time I have (without really REALLY pissing family off) and the fact that NOT doing it is NOT an option.

Maybe try incrementally creeping your alarm back. I know the first few 5:30 AM wakeups were rude. But when I started pusing back to 3AM (not every day of course, thats suicide) those 5:30 wakeups seemed like 'sleeping in'.

Re: Early Morning Training - Too Lazy [bmanners] [In reply to] Can't Post

in Maine we say "like molasses on a cold morning"

because everyone knows that sap comes out of trees, and it runs fast, and you make maple syrup out of it.

Great! Feels good doesn't it? (at least now, if not then)

Do you have a swim team?

If you aren't too far from downtown we have a master's swim team at the downtown Y with morning and evening practices.
It's a great way to keep it going in the winter.
If you are interested drop me a PM.

That will be ongoing till you break 40 min for 10 km....

But seriously the best thing for me was having a coffee maker that went off so I just slide out of bed and a warm coffee is waiting for me. Also I pack/prep my stuff the night before, for me it takes 1/2 the time to do at 10:00 pm than it does at 5 am when I am still sleepy. So it is wake-up grab coffee and grab the swim/bike/running gear and I am out the door 15 min after waking up.

Also when the alarm goes off I do lay there for a minute and think about why I am doing this, I use that thought for the mornings workout and it is amazing how much that can drive me even if it is a solo workout.

This is paramount for me too. If I pack the night before the odds of me getting in a morning workout goes up by a factor of 10.
