Drafting at Xterra Races? Can't Post

Just curious, is there drafting at off-road tri's?

If not, how do you avoid it when on such small trails?

No rule against it, but it makes some riders nervous to have someone sitting on their wheel in technical sections. The lead will likely pull over and expect you to pass.

It's kind of funny that this doesn't get more attention given all the complaints regarding drafting in road triathlons, but Xterra by it's nature eliminates the issue. Drafting is allowed, but the benefit of drafting is basically zero on most courses. I've done 7 different offroad courses and none them gave any benefit to riding directly behind someone, in all cases I can that I've been in, if you are able to ride right on someone's wheel then they are slowing you down and you'd be better off passing them.

Drafting on the downhill will help if you stay 3 or 4 bike lengths behind the rider, it would help you spot obstacles on the trail and mentally if you can pace yourself with someone on the uphill it would help.
