Do You Guys want a "May Bike Mileage Challenge" Can't Post

All you freaks gearing up for IMLP, IMCDA, Frankfurt, Roth, IM France etc etc are already going nuts doing bike mileage, so maybe we just need a challenge set up so that we can see who is doing what. Also, I need some motivation to actually electronically log my workouts on the ST log and I normally have no reason to go there unless there is some challenge on the go to sucker me into logging.

So what do the mileage junkies say?

I'll come up with rules etc....and yes, we'll let you count all mileage with the bike rear wheel turning (I assume your rear wheel is still spinning when you bunny hop the railroad tracks, or bunny hop the prettyboy in the Mercedes 500SEL who pulls out to pass and is about to hit you head on).

Dev

---------------

Rules re-posted here so you guys don't have to search around. I'm aiming for Silver club
  1. Its all about bike mileage...No credit for intensity, however, you'd be an idiot to lollygag all month on latte rides and hope to actually ride hard in races
  2. All bike mileage counts...workouts, commuting, riding with your kids, riding to the grocery store, riding across America....whatever....just get on the bike seat and out of the car! If you feel compelled to climb Whiteface on a unicycle, we'll even count that (don't laugh, a stud did that last year in 80 min)
  3. I'm giving you 30 kilometers credit for every hour of indoor riding. Some of you will ride harder than your outdoor rides, but this will be the easiest way to keep it fair
  4. Indoor riding on your bike on a trainer or rollers or in a velodrome all count. Indoor riding on a hotel exercise bike or spin bike counts. Any other indoor biking contraption is not eligible
  5. Hopefully Jen will tune in and award a "Most Ridiculous Ride of the Month Award" at the end

Levels
  1. Platinum Club 2000K = 64.5K per day
  2. Gold Club 1600K (~1000 miles) = 51.6K per day
  3. Silver Club 1000K = 32.25K per day
  4. Bronze club 800K = 25.8K per day

OK, I went and set it up. Rules to come shortly. This will force me to actually do some bike mileage given that I am spending every weekend in May doing running races or sprint tri/dus. Gotta be ready in 5 weeks to survive Epicman!!!

I could use it, but my comp goes off the front wheel. Does that make me ineligible? :D

I won't be putting in near the mileage as the IM boyz, but I could definitely use some more biking.

OK, I set up the challenge at the ST log.

Here are the rules.
Levels
  1. Platinum Club 2000K
  2. Gold Club 1600K (~1000 miles)
  3. Silver Club 1000K
  4. Bronze club 800K

OK, that's all I have. I'm hoping that Steve Larsen or Murphy's Law sign up on the 6 hour per week program an still hit Silver club averaging 40 kph :-)

Ok, I'm in.
A lot of my riding is done on the EMotion Rollers (way more intense than my outside rides).
Is there a way to designate the ride as inside/outside??

After I broke my ankle in Feb, I spent every day of Mar riding indoors on my Insideride Emotion rollers (except for 2 when I was out of town using the hotel bike). I agree that you can get a pretty high intensity ride in on these rollers, typically harder than during an hour outdoors (unless I am doing a race, hillclimb or TT), but just to make the accounting easy, let's stick with 30 k per hour indoors. Aside from the comments field in the ST log for your workout, there is no means of designation whether your ride was inside or outdoors!

I am in.

Not sure how much i will get in, as I have two weeks of hard riding followed by travel to IM Lanzarote plus a week in Amsterdam. I can probably hit Gold at least. And I am sure I can outdo Ultra-Tri-Guy by at least 100km ;)

Oh yeah and I am going to crush my pacer bunny Tigerchik's dreams!!!!!

I'm in. We get a thread for it right? I can use lots of motivation to ride.

But, I don't have any way to track miles - only time - can I still play? Please?

Lots of weird things can get accomplished in Amsterdam even on a bike. Can't believe it is 24 years since I last partied in that city...but better be in Amsterdam as a 19 year old, even in the era of AIDs, and long 80's puffy hair dooos, New Order and Frankie Goes to Hollywood (did I admit to actually watching that???).

OK, back to the biking thread.

spin bike?

Those are on par with hotel bikes. You only put the hotel bike thing in for when you travel, I see through your plan. I have to teach a couple spin classes this month though...

Sorry I left out spin bike. I actually have only one trip in May and it is to the Washington area and I am packing my Kestrel, so I am hotel bike free for this month. I will update the rules to reflect spin bike inclusion.

LOL, I was guessing you had some hair-brained argument for why spin bike doesn't count, kinda like you do with the water running in the run challenge thing.

Glad spinning counts though I only should have 2 hrs of it.

Count me in. How do you sign up? How are you counting miles done on courses used through the Computrainer (e.g., the Ironman courses). 112 miles or 30k per hour?

Sure! Set up your online training log (top right hand corner) and then go to JOIN CHALLENGE link. Then, starting tomorrow, just input your workouts and the computer does the rest.
