David Millar in Silverman relay?!
Can't Post
Rumour has it David Millar will be on a team that Scott USA is putting on....
Well, we can only hope they have ardent drugtesting for this event. Why not invite Tyler as well....

Cause I doubt that Tyler would be able to run or swim. ;) It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think you would know the rules of drug testing and of punishment being a professional athlete. David Millar served his two-year racing ban and is cleared to ride again as a professional - there should be no reason he shouldn't be alowed into any professional race now - especailly one like this.

NO! Once a doper is always DOPER. I don't believe being "cleared". he used drugs and should be banned for life, then maybe other dope heads will think the results and not use.
What do you think, if the punishment for DUI was only a $20 ticket?
Do you see a killer, raper, or thief "cured". "cleared" aftyer serving their sentences? Would you like to work with them?
These guys are lowest of the low and plus should be punished severely.

I don't mind your posts but I think you are wrong here.
He cheated at a sport, yes, it's how he and his competitors make a living, but he cheated at a sport and did his time.
That's different IMO than a "killer, raper or a thief."
He did his time and was allowed to come back, you can't fault him because the ban is only 2 years. If you got a speeding ticket would you go to court and say "You know judge, the ticket is only $50, but I deserve to pay $5,000." No, of course not, you didn't decide the penalty, you just had to abide by it, that's what Millar has done.

two things for you:
1) since when do you care about cheating? weren't you the one who blatently said you were going to draft your way around the chicago course
2) i know sports is the most important thing in many slowtwitcher's lives, but seriously i don't think rape and murder are comparable to taking EPO in cycling. If you want a comparison maybe use DUI or use someone who got 3 speeding tickets - i work with people like that - they aren't bad people, they just made mistakes.

If you can't see the sarcasm in my posts you deserved to race with those cheaters and scumbags.
Yes they are the thieves, killers and rapests of the sport.
They do not respect the sport, opponents and anyone, they should not even get close to the race course.
I do not believe in being "Cleared".

Jonas, I agree with SwBkRn44. Millar is welcome to race in pro cycling race now. It is awesome that he is going to be at a triathlon relay. This is great marketing for our sport, especially outside North America, where no doubt, Eurosport, L'Equipe and other CycleSport will pick up stories about Millar racing in a tri. Bjorn should have some good competition :-)
It reminds me of ~1986. In that year, Greg Lemond road the bike leg of the now World's Toughest Triathlon Ironman. Keep in mind that this was when Greg Lemond and Scott Molina were at the top of their respective games. There was lots of smack talk in the press about how close Skid we be to the Tour de France stud. It made excellent news, was awesome for our sport and was a great training day for Lemond.
Skid, if you read this (and I know it is late in New Zealand), it would be great if you can post the details of that Epic battle. Keep in mind, that this was when the World's Toughest Tri, based in South Lake Tahoe was a full Ironman distance, not the shortened version of 2/100/20 miles that came to be in the late 80's (wussification of triathlon...). The swim was in the Lake at 6400 ft above sea level and the bike took you over Luther and Monitor Pass. I believe at one point on the bike you get up to almost 9000 ft and back down to 4000 ft. I had the pleasure of racing the wussified version in 1993 and it took me as long as a normal Ironman (10:39 for me). I believe the top times in full Ironman version were barely 10 hours...much like Embrunman.

Much as I love Bjorn, I seriously doubt that will be the case if Millar actually turns up in decent shape (which, of course, he may not). Even without the drugs Millar is one of the most gifted long TT riders in the pro-peleton.

But bjorn doesn't have to hold back at all since he won't be running. So we haven't even seen what Bjorn can do when he goes all out with nothing to spare.

"Was it a 112 mile TT?"
I believe it was 40 kms. But it's not like Millar hasn't rode a longer TT before.
I love Bjorn also, but if I was a betting man I'd still go with Millar, even without drugs. We wouldn't expect a top triathlete to beat a top marathoner or swimmer, so it amazes me why some of you think it could be done on the bike.

Then I think I can safely say it again. We haven't seen what he is capable of going 112 miles without worrying about having to run. The two races aren't comparable. You could have the best TT racer in the world @ 40 miles who would/could be a MOPer at 112.

I am willing to bet Millar is clean now, given how much he seems to have fallen off his previous TT standings. He used to be a major top-5 threat in the TdF TT's. Now he's an also ran.
Curious, what % back did Millar finish off Larsson in the TdF TT's vs. what % back Bjorn finished? Anyone want to do the math?

Markus has a slightly valid point. When you take Tour De Frane cyclists and make them swim for an hour and tack a marathon on the end, they have yet to ride faster than the top tri cyclists. Chann McRae, Udo Bolts, Rolf Aldag and Kai Huddermark have never outsplit the top tri cyclists.
And for the record, most pro cyclists do not train for 4-4.5 hour TT's. Their long TT's are barely over 1 hour.
That being said, even Bjorn will likely concede that Millar will finish ahead. The question is whether it is another time zone or within 10 minutes...

I'll take your bait and bump. If you are only going to limit yourself to "interesting" threads though, you might have a hard time getting "finish line behavior" off the front page! How about going into the archives and bumping a bunch of classic threads from the past?

I am not saying that Bjorn will spank this dude, I am not even saying he will beat him. My only point was that someone said we saw what Bjorn could do in a TT alone and my point was we haven't seen him do anything like this. His race at Timberman where he went 42km/h is only 8 km/h off the fastest time at the TDF for their 52km TT. Millar is one heck of a cyclist, however, I think going all out for 180km is an altogether different beast and anything could happen.
I am pulling for Bjorn though and thankfully I will be there to see it. Well, sort of. ;)

Yet a domestique like Steve Larsen spanked the top tri cyclists over & over, fancy that... did Chann McRae really ride in the TdF?
