The non-profit ITP Foundation announces that its 4th Annual Darien Sport Shop ITPMAN Triathlon will be held September 27. The Foundation, dedicated to battling the rare bleeding disorder ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenic Pupura), confirmed that the event will again be held in the neighboring towns of Darien and New Canaan, CT and will follow the same course as last year. Registration and complete details are available now at www.active.com. The fee for USAT participants is $100; non-USAT members’ registration is $110. Registration will close at 500 athletes. Participants in the 2008 Darien Sport Shop ITPMAN Triathlon will swim 0.5 miles, bicycle 15.0 miles and run 5.0 miles, all in rapid succession. Both professional and amateur triathletes are welcome at the event. Relay teams will also be an option at this year’s event, which is a new addition in response to feedback from participants in previous years. Eric Opdyke will again serve as the Race Director. Christopher Landino, Executive Director of the ITP Foundation, said that “The ITP Foundation is excited about this year’s event and is pleased that it has become a priority event for so many endurance enthusiasts. We are once again grateful to have the support of the towns of Darien and New Canaan and thank the Boards of Selectmen of both communities for welcoming the 4th Annual Darien Sport Shop ITPMAN Triathlon to the area. We also look forward to working with Parks and Recreation Department of Darien and the police departments of both towns, all of which go above and beyond the call of duty in making this a safe and successful event.” “The Darien Sport Shop ITPMAN Triathlon has quickly become an institution in our community," said Evonne Klein, 1st Selectwoman of Darien. “I am delighted to welcome more participants to our beautiful town every year. While enjoying the surroundings, their participation benefits such a worthwhile cause.” Mr. Landino also praised the Darien Sport Shop, which is the Title Sponsor of the event for the fourth year. “As area athletes know, Darien Sport Shop is synonymous with quality, and the Foundation is proud to have Darien Sport Shop’s imprimatur of quality on the ITPMAN Triathlon. Their generosity in helping the ITP Foundation help children with this bleeding disorder is greatly appreciated.” “I have been proud to support the ITPMAN triathalon since its inception and particularly pleased that it has grown in popularity each year,” said Gina Zangrillo, President, Darien Sport Shop. “This translates in the end to greater donations to assist this worthy cause while bringing a notable athletic event to our community." Finally, Mr. Landino thanked the Darien Sport Shop ITPMAN Triathlon Committee, which he said is doing a wonderful job. “The success of the ITPMAN ultimately rises or falls on how dedicated the Committee is,” he said. “I think the men and women serving on this year’s Committee will ensure that we have our most successful event yet.” 100% of all sponsorship dollars from ITPMAN will go directly to ITP research. There are several Sponsorship opportunities available at different levels. For more information, please contact the ITP Foundation at (203) 655-6954 or chris@itpfoundation.org. The ITP Foundation is a non-profit organization established to raise awareness of ITP, fund ITP research and help families with children and adolescents who have ITP and need financial assistance to manage and treat this dangerous bleeding disorder. The Foundation takes an active role in raising awareness of ITP through outreach efforts on both national and local levels. This is done through sporting, social and educational events. The primary focus is on sponsorship of endurance athletes who raise funds for the ITP Foundation.
