Re: Custom painted P3c [tri-3] [In reply to] Can't Post

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What really flips your switch might not flip mine. I can remember several years back when everyone in the roadie world lusted for Colnagos and revered their color schemes. To me, they looked like a clown threw up on them. Each to their own, I suppose.

Back in the old days when people built houses and sold them, you could ask any retailer what people wanted and the answer was neutral color schemes ... white, beige, grey ... nothing exciting at all. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the best-selling car color (when people used to buy and sell cars) was white. YAWN

Except for that horrendous white, red and black P2C from 2007, I think Cervelo has played it very safe and smart. Not very exciting, but the fact is, most people don't really want exciting.

Yes, my point was as you said, boring. That's what they offer graphically....not even a color choice. While I'd love one of their bikes, the first thing I would do would be to paint it so it wasn't so damn ugly. And the P4 sets a new standard of ugly.
But, I was also talking of their ads.....no risk. Many say no risk, no gain...we'll see in the long term.

Both have their own merits. Either choice isn't bad. Personally, there are a lot of bikes out there with carbon color so I would choose the solid red one instead of the fade even though the fade looks pretty bad ass.

That is very cool, but one thing to consider about Cervelo, they are an engineering company - function over fashion

that's a terrible excuse for cervelo. they are a company started by engineers, they are a bike manufacturer. i'd bet they have marketing, sales, and design guys, aside from the engineers.

besides, if they have the best product, why not also have the best looking? it can't take that much more effort, and many will make a final decision based on looks.

I agree but then I've said this before.......

Campled,

These designs are really gorgeous...so much so that...and, man, I really don't have the heart to tell you...but Cervelo's aren't made with carbon weaves on the surface anymore (a la Look or Colnago). Cervelo removed the carbon underlay weave in 2007...today if you remove the paint you'll just be left with a dull carbon finish.

That would almost get me to consider a cervelo. ;-) Very pretty--looks like the Fuji CF2.

What does a repaint do to the Cervelo frame warranty - will they still cover you after a strip and repaint?

That might be kind of cool in it's own right. Dull carbon finish with glossy black decals....very stealth.

let me guess, Cervelo did not come up with that paint scheme ;)

refreshingly nice. I still think Cervelo should have a design contest for one of their upcoming color schemes.

very nice paint/color option for keeping with the original paint-scheme setup.

You do some great work Darren. I saw the bike you did for Trev (in Jay's memory) and it was a beautiful piece of art.

Truly talented work! How much does a paint job like that cost (for one of your simpler designs) and how long would I be without the bike. Might be a great present for my wife for the off season.

Re: Custom painted P3c [RandyS] [In reply to] Can't Post

defining simple would be hard for Darin... every time he does a paint job, its more than what the customer asks for. Darin is great to work with, hes painted 2 of my bikes and i told him i wanted something different on the latest one, maybe with a skull and fire, right then and there he said he had an idea and started descibing it, i said just go to town man, and he went balistic on my frame, couldnt ask for anything more. in fact hes about to paint another one of my frames, but a basic will probably run you around $750 bucks, and depending on his backlog, you are looking at a 4 week turnaround pending customers approval, but well worth the wait if its more, the sad thing is the pictures NEVER do his work justice. Darin needs to post the hillbilly bike he just completed as well, hes got a cool email mail out that he sends out with the latest custom paint jobs hes completed. the thing about Darin is, give him an idea and just let him run with it, its amazing what he comes up with, take the bamboo bike, that guy wanted something along the lines of buddah, and out comes a bamboo bike with exceptional detail! word on the street is he is designing some road kits, cant wait to see those!

Re: Custom painted P3c [jasonogk] [In reply to] Can't Post

that is SOOO much nicer than the stock frames. Glad to see some a new scheme that really dresses up what is already a very functional machine. Did Darren come up with the graphics scheme, or was it something you brought to him? Should I ever get a new rig, the continual number of posts demonstrating his work has assured I'll send something out his way too.

Nice work Darren!

Thats a question that Darren can hopefully answer as it isnt my frameset! it was at R&A the day I was there taking the pics. Hopefully Darren can shed some light on who's design it is! It is one of those frames that pics do not really do it justice, it is sweet!

The customer really liked the layout of the Willier so I utilized some of the elements from there paint scheme to give the Cervelo a face lift.

Here is the "Hill Billy" bike I just completed that Chad had mentioned. Thank you for all the compliments!
