Crossfit and triathlon training Can't Post

I am thinking about doing some crossfit in the off season to build back some strenght. Does anyone have any experience doing crossfit with multisport? I had done crossfit a good bit before getting into triathlon and just wanted to hear if anyone had some experience with it.

On a similar note, has anyone tried those cranks that rotate independently? I forget what they're called, but I hear that they can give you a 40% increase in your power output according to science? They will probably be really sweet to use during this off-season =)

40%? I thought it was at least 60%.
I did what you are talking about, I averaged 20 mph on the bike- got my 40% and now I average 28 mph. I am looking to do it this winter and be just around 40 mph.

I am starting p90x tonight and those two programs are very similiar. Either way, you are being active and getting a workout- which is good in my book.

Unless you are doing crossfit endurance then it will probably be very much like any other strength training program.
I'm just a 5-day-a-week gymrat. As for how this interfaces with triathlon? Well, evening workouts nearly never happen because it would be my 3rd workout of the day. In the weight room each afternoon I can feel about a 10% reduction in strength due simply to the morning triathlon workout. I've really not done triathlon training without the weight training but assume I'd be faster/more rested if I didn't do the 8hrs per week of weight training.
During the winter when the total volume of your triathlon training is likely less than normal, a strength training program can be a good thing to add balance to your fitness and break up any monotony you feel.

Crossfit is a good thing, do it.

ps. just to be clear, I don't think it will make you a faster triathlete than if you invested the same amount of time in triathlon training. But it's not always about being the best triathlete.

I am currently doing Crossfit (CF). Occasionally, it screws up my multi-sport workout. If you waste your shoulders on a CF workout, the swim workout is going to suck. Or you can cut back on the CF and do a better swim. My decision (at this point in the season) is to devote the time to CF and when it gets closer to spring switch to mutli-sport.
Also, I can only scratch my head at people who would compare Crossfit to powercranks. There is nothing gimmicky about Crossfit. It is just a high intensity, ball-bustin workout.

To be clear, the sarcasm in my first post was directed at the frequency with which this topic is brought up on this forum, and the ferocity with which the topic is discussed on both sides of the issue. I have no comment on the "gimmickiness," or lack thereof, of crossfit.
