Bjorn shows how to ride at 15rpm (and still gain on Flanagan) Can't Post

What do you get when you combine a 44 tooth little ring with SavageMan's Westernport Wall?

For everyone else in the world, the humiliation of walking your bike in front of a crowd while Eye of the Tiger blares.
For Bjorn, the opportunity to show off how you can ride a bike at 15rpm and about 1mph without falling over.

Flanagan is the first to go over but is quickly swallowed up by Bjorn on the climb over Big Savage Mtn. Todd Wiley, Chris Martin, and Susan Williams follow.

The beginning of the video shows the bricks in the wall with the names engraved of everyone who cleared it in 2007. There'll be a lot more for 2008 as nearly 140 cleared it clean. More videos to come including lots of good crashes!

That guy is actually a girl, and on raceday (2007) she cleared it and won her age group. And, that's how the Wall is supposed to be: covered in leaves, grass, and general detritus to add to the difficulty. The town of Westernport weeds and sweeps it for race day, makes it far too easy.

Virtually all the vids on youtube except the one in the first post of this thread are from the 2007 race. It was a much bigger, louder party this year!

Murphy,

It ain't all about The Wall. The Wall gets all the attention, but everyone agrees that Killer Miller at Mile 40 is the hardest thing they've ever encountered in a race.

There's a couple of SavageMan originals who are heading up to do AmZ next wknd, guys who spent the pre-SavageMan years heading out to western Md with me for Epic, err, SavageCamps and were part of the consensus on the Epic Ride where the idea of SavageMan was floated and it was unanimously concluded "there must be a race out here, it would be epic. It would be totally savage, man!" You and tetsuoni need to get down for 2009 and we can start discussing the Savage Zofingen Series.

Indeed, one of them is Ted, who is the inspiration for the guy walking his bike in the Savage Logo! Say hi for me!

Yes, I hate to admit it, but that is a picture of me walking up the wall. I tried to deny it, but Kyle was "kind" enough to distribute to me and several others the actual photograph he sent to the artist as proof. It was impossible to get out of that one so I have resigned myself to live with the humiliation. If anyone can get a picture of Yost walking his bike up the Westernport Wall send it my way, but unfortunately he simply crushes it every time.

Do take a close look at the 2008 race picture. There is a swimmer in a Notre Dame cap getting beaten in the swim who bears a striking similarity to ... Flanagan.

By the way, Savageman is a great race and add it to your list of races you have to do.

See you at AmZ.

Ted

Making fun of Ted is no fun. He's about the nicest guy on earth so there is just no satisfaction in it. Flanagan, on the other hand.....

Ted is right. A close look at the Savage swimmer logo and you will see a swimmer with a Notre Dame swim cap getting his arse whooped. That would be inspired by the one and only Flanagan. I will say, though, that the inspiration for the Savage swimmer himself, a certain, unnamed teammate of mine and Flanagan's who was the fastest swim of the day at Eagleman and Lake Placid, was a no-show at SavageMan this year (something about tile and grout in a bathroom? please!), so expect to see Penn State in some humiliating aspect of the Savage runner logo for 2009.
