Bike shoes for wide feet? Can't Post

I am trying to find some road biking shoes made for wide feet. I've had my bike shop looking for some for the past month with no luck. I even expanded the selection to include Mtn. bike shoes. I am not brand conscience but have always used Sidi (Sidi road and T1's)/w Look pedals. I have adjusted the straps and velcro tight, loose to see if there is any improvement with no luck. The problem is any ride over 50 miles the ball of my foot starts to fagiue, I really notice it during my run were my feet feel like they have "flats". Weird but true, my Mtn. bike shoes (Forte/w Time pedals) are only slightly better but I have not done a ride over 4 hours in them. The only shoe that really feels good are a cheap pair of Diadora's/w velcro straps and a very wide flat sole I have for Spin class/w SPD pedals. I did a "grin and bare it" for IMW 2004 in the Sidi T1 but really want to be comfortable for IMLP 2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year!!!

Sidi makes most, if not all of their shoes in wider sizes, and calls them the "mega" versions (ie, the Genius Mega, etc).

The mega version is a fairly substantial increase in width -- I have slightly wider feet, and found they were too wide).

Eagles may soar, but ferrets very seldom get sucked into jet engines.

Carnacs tend to run pretty wide. As mentioned below, Sidi makes a "mega" version of most models which are built on a wider last. Shimano shoes have a wider toebox and a narrower heel, which suits my ugly-ass feet quite nicely. I wish I didn't have to run Shimano shoes on a Campy ride, but you gotta go with what fits best.

The only other options that I'm aware of (after having tried damn near every shoe out there) is to go custom - Rocket7 and Lust both make VERY nice custom shoes, but you'll pay a pretty hefty price for them. Bunny favours Lust over Rocket7, although I'm unenlightened as to what the extra $300-400 will get you ($800 + molding cost VS $560).

I didn't have too much luck with the sidi mega's, but am very happy with my shimano tr-01 tri shoes. I also know the top end shimano shoes are available in wider widths

I have the Rocket 7 Tri shoes and just Love them. I have a 9 4E foot. I developed a bad hgammer toe and ended up with very bad foot problems by wearing too tight of shoes, I'm on my third foot operation this year. In 2003 I finished IMOO with a foot that hurt to walk the 8 blocks to the start. The Rockets were brand new and I had not ridden mile one in them before the race. I even used them with no socks the last 40mi with no problems even though they were brand new! I was slow, but I would have never finished without these shoes. They are VERY LIGHT and open very wide for easy access. You'll want to go custom so they are about $550. BTW they don't seem to respond to E-Mails, but were very helpful on the phone.

I wear a 11 EE running shoe and have had great success with Sidi Megas.

Damn dude, I thought I had bad feet! (6.5 EEE w/ bunions on both sides)

When you made the decision to go with Rocket7, did you look at Lust at all? What was the deciding factor?

I have a EEE foot. Canac Quartz fit me fine. Carnacs fit wide and the Quartz fits wide for a Carnac.

I went with Rocket 7 mostly due to cost & the problem of having an authorized person do the casting for the Lust. The Lust are $800 + $100 to $250 to have them cast. If you're not in California or Colorado you have to wait for the traveling road show! The Rocket 7 is Custom for $550. They send a fiberglass sock & a custom footbed to place your foot. The sock is activated by water. You can step on the foot bed or on your orthotics. The shoe will then take the shape of your orthotics. It is very easy to do it yourself or you could enlist your podiatrist.
