Bike rules. Pointless?
Can't Post
What is the point of rules dictating how a bike can be designed and built? Why restrictions on wheel size, angles, weight, and frame shape? What is the point?

Why not? Recumbents rock your socks off. All bikes are beautiful.

IM on a recumbent would be really logical.

Uh Tibbs, I said it would be logical. Riding a bent in IM would be a really smart choice. Comfort, easy to eat, aerodynamic, no back/neck pain. Logic.

I don't know, but those recumbents friggin fly with a strong rider. They give up a little uphill but not down or flat. I've thought about getting one for my 26 mile no-traffic (parkway) commute. Cover/fairing in the rainy season and you jam some CD's underneath.

Yeah. I'm still riding my Slingshot and no one has yelled at me for a cable 'sted of a downtube.

I have to qualify this.
Slingshot agreed to sponsor me when I approached them about it in '96. There is a new management team but they are still great to work with. Slingshots are highly regarded off-road, but just haven't caught on with multisport folks
yet.
I have a link to the Slingshot site on my site, along with links to a few related folks, like Neverreach. A shot of my bike is on the link page. They toyed with composite frames but so far have not found the right material combination. They are made right here in Michigan, just north of me in Grand Rapids.
The darn thing is so comfortable I don't want to give it up. I will more than likely however upgrade this year to Slingshot's new aluminum frame. The downtube replacing cable allows for a
slight
flexing of the top tube just before the post. There is a barely perceptible caterpillar action on climbing. It is a great design for long standing climbs. On courses like Three Rivers, or Little Smokies I think it helps a ton. I can hold some respectable speeds on flats with it. I'm pretty much an MOP'er. I place a few times a year and the bike has a lot to do with that. My fit is like a glove. Once I'm going, I really don't feel like I'm on a bike if that makes sense. I think that is true of any frame however. Fit can make up for lots other factors. Another great advantage is it folds up into a case with outside dimensions similar to a card table, and about 15 inches wide. Not much bigger than oversized luggage. I've flown with it a few times without a bike transfer charge since it is nothing more than a piece of "exercise equipment" when questioned. It takes about 20 minutes max to break it down or re-assemble.
Yeah. I like it a lot.

Jim, I dig innovation. I would think that the home site for a bike like that would talk about what's going on with the bike. Instead, all that I'm finding is them talking about how they are "left-of-center" and "on the edge" or how they are the fastest single speed, fastest road bike, and fastest bike in the dirt. I'm assuming there is a link I'm missing where they actually talk about the technology?

I have considered this for a commuter a few times
Cool bike for the price $695.
Anyone ever thought about an "open" class for Tri? Snorkels and fins for the swim, recumbents on the ride, pace runners for the run. Thoughts?

More like break 7 hours for an Ironman. Can you imagine what Stadler or Bjorn could do with a bike that is A. faster, and B. easier on your legs and nutrition. This doesn't count the 1/2 hour swim time.
