I hear you, but the funny (sad?) part is, of the three shops in/around the city, this is the one that has it's act together the most.

It sounds like there is a big difference between big and small bike shops as mine told me fork shipments are arriving almost everyday. I didn't even buy the bike from them and they will get it turned around in less than 24 hrs. I am in Dallas and shop is Richardson's Bike Mart (Big Cervelo shop).

I might be able to get an unused very, very cheap wolf cl fork- pm me if interested in that or if anyone else might be interested.
I cut her to size, glued her up, patiently waited 24 hours- and now she's done- to 5 Nm spec! :) Isn't she pretty? I'd hate to see her with an easton!
Weight of SL Wolf- with fork race crown- and 19.15 mm steerer tube- 334 grams
Weight of 3T Funda fork- with same fork race crown- and an 18.85 mm steerer tube- 364 grams (I took a 3mm spacer out).
Size 56 frame- no spacers under stem.

I just purchased a used p2k from a private owner. Is this model involved in the defective fork issue?

I'm one of those a zillion miles from the nearest shop, so my replacement will take weeks. What is the story with cutting and gluing? What has to be glued?

I was able to finally head down to one of the local bike shops that carries Cervelo and the process was amazingly simple. Actually they were better than that. I just walked in, gave them my name and phone number. They took down the serial number on the frame and forks, took my forks, handed me a uncut pair of the 3T Funda forks and I was on my way home. The whole process was less than 10 minutes and it was a great expierence.
So now I can sell my Alpha Q GS-10 fork that I just do not need.
Life is just that simple some days.

What is the max stack height allowed on the 3T Funda fork. I have read the instructions and did not see it but was too lazy to re-read it and was trying to find the information on the website. Now they give you a 75mm insert with the starnut that needs to be bonded into the steerer after cutting the fork to length but I would still like to know what the max height is.
With a 75mm insert I would assume that the insert should go below the top of the headtube. With my F99 stem which is 37mm tall, that would leave 38mm for stack height. The carbon top cover is 15mm I think in weight so that would leave 22mm for spacers. With the 2mm drop inside the stem and with a 20mm spacer that would leave 4mm below the top of the headtube.
It just does not add up why they would only include a 75mm insert.
Now why do manufacturers even make a fork that requires an insert? Why not just make the fork steerer thicker. 3T's site sort of sucks for information. Can you run this fork without the steerer insert which has been mentioned on a few other websites and just use a FSA compression device or say a Tune Gum Gum as what I have heard is that the steerer is actually thick enough to not have to use the insert.
The reason for this post is to just clarify a few things from SHOP GUYS who actually install these on a regular basis. Any insight would be great thanks. I am fully aware that they say to do the bonding which I plan on doing 100% but when I think about it more, it just does not make total sense.
Thanks in advance.

This is EXACTLY what began with True Temper and the Wolf SL fork debacle. Thin walled carbon steerer to save weight, necessitating an aluminum insert. Initial Wolf insert was 75mm, then CERVELO (not True Temper) change to a longer 125mm insert so that it went into the head tube since if the insert is NOT below the upper bearing, a lovely concentration stress point will exist below the stem (and apparently, some sharp edged stems are worse for this than others - read FSA).
I'm sticking with alloy steerers thanks! I like the stiff feeling and the money savings I can make up the weight with some towards some lightweight brakes if that is your thing.
Good luck with the new 3T fork - I was wondering if they were made any differently, but apparently not!

The 3T Funda forks do indeed use an insert but it only serves as a method of holding the Starnut in place. The steerer wall of the 3T is much thicker that the True Temper forks and so the insert serves no structural purpose, meaning that a long 125mm insert is not required. In that respect the Funda forks are actually very different from the True Temper Wolf SL.

Right ...
And per True Temper the only reason for the insert was to reduce stress on the steerer tube from the clamping force of the stem. Yet, Cervelo decided to change the insert lenght on their own ... Sure don't need a 125mm insert for a star nut!
Point is, where the aluminum inserts ends, it concentrates force at that spot and if this is above the upper bearing, can lead to failure (has nothing to do with carbon either, aluminum stems fail here as well ala Hincapie at PR).
Cervelo was starting to spec these forks well before the recall came out and I'm sure all the failure tests meet the stds (like True Temper as well), but I'm just surprised by the short AL insert issue again! Funny how other lightweight forks (Reynolds, Look, Easton) do not do this!

I did re-read the instructions and it clearly states that you do not need to use the insert and you can use a compression device not supplied. This to me means that they fork is more than strong enough to work without the insert which is why I am going to use my FSA Compression device to preload the stem and then use my Tune Gum Gum while riding.
The FSA compression device is 1g heavier than the insert with starnut and bolt/cap and with the FSA a better design, I am not going to be bonding anything into the steerer. I will torque my stem to the recommended 5nm with paste and life should be good. If the stem cracks under 5nm then I would like to know before I go riding.

There is a thread discussing this on Cervelo forum and there seems to be the same confusion as we had with the Wolfs. My shop told me max of 40mm spacers under stem not including the 15mm cap on top of headtube. The instructions do not cover this nor does their web site.

I had two hours today to build up my new SLC with the new 3T Funda fork. Was able to get almost the whole bike done except for the shifter cables. Bike as it sits without the shifter cables installed is 13.95 lbs.
The 3T fork was easy to install especially when you do not have to put the insert in. I just cut it to 210mm and installed it within seconds. Tightened down the FSA compression device to pre-load the headset, tightened down the stem to torque specs and switched out the FSA for a Tune Gum Gum and life is great.
The bike looks pretty good but I still have a couple of things to tune and will post some pictures.
