Bike Purchase Questions... Tom D. ?

I'll be getting a fairly hefty tax refund this year, and was thinking of buying a tri-specific bike. When I bought my first [road] bike, I knew absolutely nothing about bikes, and bought the first one in my price range that that the salesman said "fit" me. I have not been disappointed with the bike, but definitely want to try a lot of bikes and make the absolute best purchase for me this time around. Question 1: What's the best process for evaluating your bike choices? Some people say ride them first. Others say it isn't necessary. If you're purchasing a new bike, what steps do you take to make sure you're getting the bike the works best for you? Does it just "feel" right? How do I know I'll be comfy for 2-5 hours on the bike? Question 2: If I want to consider bikes like the P3C, which aren't yet available, how do I tell what it'll be like to be on one? I'd hate to order it and then find it doesn't ride the way I'd like (yeah... right. :) ). ------------------------------------- Steve Perkins
