Bike / Power Crank Question Can't Post

I'm thinking of taking the Power Cranks plunge but being an idiot with a bike wrench, I want to get an inexpensive (re: bike < PC's) road bike to use w/ the PC's as there is no way I could put them on my bike myself.

Any suggestions?

Also, this one might be stupid (and shows my lack of bike knowledge) but I have a Giant Tempo stationary bike. Can I put the PC's on it?

Thanks
Ken

Ken,

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to put the power cranks on a stationay bike since the crank/BB interface will be different.

As for getting a second bike, the obvious question is: Why not just pay the LBS ~$25-50 to do the installation? With the money you save, you could buy a toolkit(~$150) and a book that will tell you everything you need to know. Working on your own bike is fun, gives you a lot more flexibility, and helps keeps things running smoothly. It's not really all that complicated either.

ashayk is right. You can do it, Ken....just read the directions. In fact, people that know about wrenching sometimes have a harder time putting them on and especially taking them off, because they THINK they know how to do it. People that read the directions have no problems with them.

They MIGHT be able to go on that stationary bike if you could put a pair of regular bike cranks on it. Ask someone who knows something about bikes to look at it and they could probably tell you.

And yaqui is right you could probably do it if you read the directions but you might have to get a tool or two, less than $50 total.

I took my bike to my LBS and watched them put the cranks on for the first time. I do have a pretty good relationship with the people there so they had no problem with this. After seeing it done once putting the cranks on and taking them off is no problem. Maybe that is something you could try.
