Best aerobars--what's your vote? Can't Post

Hey folks,

I have a chance to get a leftover 2005 Guru Trilite at a very good price. The 2006 Trilites are being shipped with the Easton Delta Force/Aero Force combo, while the 2005 model comes with the Profile Design Airwing OS/Carbon Stryke combo.

I'm looking to get a bike that will be good for Iron distance rides. I know that Profile Design was very popular at this year's Kona. Very few opted for Easton bars. Profile Design equipment is obviously very versatile, but the Easton bars are stupid light and look nicely streamlined.

What's the concensus around here? I'm new to the tribike scene, so I have no experience with either bar set. Should I leave the Profile Design bars on the bike or get them swapped out to the Easton bars? Or should I consider another brand entirely?

Thanks in advance for everyones insight.

Best aerobars?

1. Visiontech alluminum with alloy, aero base bars.

2. Profile T2 with Visiontech base bars.

3. HED integrated.

4. The new OVAL bars look very promising.

I dont know about the bars but would not recommend the profile design aero drink bottle that sponge/mesh just does not work by their own instructions. Did GFT this weekend and must have seen 15-20 of the mesh pieces throughout the course and was a pain keeping my own in.

The best ones are the ones on which you can ride in the correct position. Figure out where your elbow pads and hands should be, and check which ones will allow those points in space. Weight is irrelevant, unless you are interested in bragging rights. I've heard that the Easton bars are non-aerodynamic (biketechreview.com); you'll have to pay to see the results there.

The Eastons are nice bars - they are however prone to slipping.

Quite a few people - my coach included - returned theirs as there seemed to be a problem in the clip on's staying in position against the base bar.

Because it is carbon on carbon - you have to be careful not to over torque them.

I had a set and sold them with my bike last month - personally - I liked them a lot.

I have a VisionTech trimax carbon one piece bar - which will be going on my new ride.

I tried them on a bike on a trainer and they (for me) were very comfortable, light and as a one piece - will not have the slipping difficulties I have heard.

Only set back - if the integrated stem is not the correct length for you - then you are in a spot of trouble.

Get measured up - the post before was entirely correct - the best bar is the most comfortable or the one that fits you the best

I would vote for hed cliplite's with base bar of choice. I have no experience with one piece setups.

Easy fix: buy an extra Jetstream sponge. Fits perfectly into the Profile bottle, very little splashing.

As for aerobars, I second HED cliplites with whatever base bar you are most comfortable with.

I am just in the process of switching over my front end on my Dual. I have for the last 6 years been using a full Syntace front end. I love the C2's (cut down to my liking) and my F99 stem. The Stratos base bar has been good but I just got a screaming deal on an Easton Delta base bar.

I was warned that I would have to do some things to make sure that the Delta worked with the Syntace C2's and F99 stem. Make sure that I take sand paper to all the surface that will be in contact with the Delta and make sure that there are no burrs (sp). Lube up all the bolts and make sure that I torque them to the exact specs. This store has done this set-up for a lot of people and non of them have complained about slipping. I know 4 of the people that bought this set-up from the store and they love it.

The set-up that they all bought was the Easton Delta base bar, Syntace F99 stem, Syntace SLS and Tektro RX 5.0 carbon levers. This set-up weighs in at 785 grams.

He also mentioned that he has not had any success with the Easton carbon aerobars. He mentioned that he had a lot of the aerobars returned but no basebars. Interesting.

I have been using the Easton bars (clip ons and base bar) since January. I have only had to retighten them once. I now have a few thousand miles on them and I am completely satisfied. They are very comfortable and allow more hand positions than HED/Oval or Vision Tech if you have large hands.

I am curious as to which Easton bar (Attack or Delta Force) was tested for aerodynamics and how it was tested. I find it difficult to believe that there would be a significant difference between Vision Tech, Profile, Syntace and Easton. The HED/Oval could have a slight advantage since it is a flat wing vs. curved or round.

I have had one piece bars in the past, but have opted for more adjustability and customization for comfort. Not that there are some one-piece bars that offer a degree of adjustability. My current set-up is a Vision FSA alloy aero base bar (the best base bar out there hands down IMHO) with Hed S-Bend carbon clip-ons. Looks great and feels great and is a very light combo.

Money no object? The new Zipp Zupka (or whatever they are called are pretty trick - I finally saw a pair). Or how about the Planet X aerobars - very differenent and great if they work for you (key issue of course). Both all carbon bling, yadda yadda. My previous fav was the Visiontech with T2+ on there. I now like the Planet X bars with Tektro 5.0 levers a lot since they feel so rock solid. I do think that many would NOT like the extensions though, although they are working on offering some different extensions instead of their pretty aggressive (read shallow) S bends that currently come with the bar.

I guess it would depend on your definition of "Best". For me, it has been the HED for the past 4yrs & with the 2007 refinements makes it hard to beat.

Just yesterday I provided a T14 with the new Aerus carbon bars. I'll check with the bike fitter to see what he thought & the athlete to see what she thinks. I'm selling lots, but I haven't had an opportunity to use them as yet. FWIW - The bars weigh in at 554g

Is there a large variance in the distance between the top of the bars and the top of the arm pads, or does it appear that they are all pretty standard (I'm sure theree is between clip on versus complete bar).

My Top five are now:
  1. Visiontech carbon base bar and carbon extension, ski bend, of course.... (http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/features/sbend.shtml)
  2. Zipp Vuka: Simply the nicest aerobar available- but pricey. Speed (and quality) costs money: How fast do you want to go?
  3. Profile Carbon X1.5. I know, they are an "S" bend, but they are a rather bendy "S" bend.
  4. Hed Aerobars. Some new versions have been a bit flexy though.
  5. Oval: lots of adjustability and fully modular. Nice.

I just ordered a pair of Easton Attack TT's. I haven't been truly happy with any aerobars since my Scott clipons (the 2 piece lemond model, not the original U shaped ones).

Hopefully these ones break the streak.

I have a set of Missles now with Ski bend extensions. They are excellent. The drop to the base bars is a little too much for my taste however. These would be OK on a higher head tube bike but not too hot on a low head tube bike. The base bars are simply too low for my taste. The litle elbow pads are oddly comfortable- much more so than I thought. Workmanship and finish throughout are very, very nice.
