So I've been running in the Speedster 3 the past couple of weeks and like them. Not sure I could run a marathon in them. So my question is what shoes should I look at that have a little more cushion and structure. Oh yeah I do use orthodics so I usually don't need a monster stability shoe. Thanks

Check out the Landreth. That is what I use for an every day shoe. It is still pretty light. I would have no problem using the Speedstar's for a marathon. Used them for IM this year. Would run in them all the time but they wear out really fast.

Durability was my issue with the speedsters. So I figured if I had a shoe I could rotate with the speedster that would help. I looked on Asics website and they have the Landreath, nimbus, and cumulus as the same category as the speedsters so I figure I check those out. The speedsters are the first Asics I have used. In the past I have run in Saucony but the last few my orthodics haven't fit in them well so I took the plunge and switched. So far I am happy we'll see.

I put orthotics in ds-trainer 13s and run everything on them. Races, long runs, speedwork. They are only .2 ozs heavier than the speedstars.

You would probably want .5 size bigger in the trainers than the speedstars.

DS Trainer is pretty much the same shoe, but with a bit more stability. Order a full size larger than your speedstars.

Do you recommend the bigger size because of the orthodics or just because they run small?

A little bit of both, but I guess mostly because they run small.

I also recommend ordering a full size up on the DS Trainer. I wear 2130's and Speedsters (which I thought were too light) so I bought the DS 13's which worked out for the marathon I ran last week. I might run my next marathon in the Speedsters though since even with the upsizing the DS's feel a little small. All my previous Asics are 9.5 's (US) and my DS's are 10's.

I use the Speedstar too. I would rec. the Nimbus 10, it is softer than the Landreth and will provide enough room for your orthotic. Plus with the new design at the toe box, they will fit a little better than other Asics which tend to offer more room in the toe box.

A roadrunner sports retail store opened not to far from me so I figure I'll check all the recommendations out rather than having to order them.

Thanks

I rotate between a set of Asics Kayano 13s and DS-Trainer 13s for training. I love the both but find the Kayanos to heavy/cushy/structured for any kind of speed work. I bought the DS-Trainers one full size up as seems to be the norm. I use them for running marathons without any issues and find they offer a great balance between cushioning, lightweight and support. For a half IM and shorter events, I absolutely recommend the Asics Gel-Bandito. It is a structured racing flat. It runs true to size and is ridiculously light at 7.9 oz. I have done sprints, olympics and plenty of speed work in them. I have not worm them during a marathon length event. Hope this helps. As a reference, I have flat/narrow/low volume feet and I am a mid-foot striker... if any of that stuff matters.

They run very small. I am a 7.5; wear a 7.5 in Speedstars. Always was an 8 in DS Trainers until the 13s--now am an 8.5.
